Hi guys,

Besides WWI flight sims, I have always loved WW2 shooters for their immersive action and fun. Of the recent crop of shooters, Red Orchestra, the mod to Unreal Tournament 2004 has got to be my all time favorite (and it's freeware too). ;\) Well of course you probably know the mod team has gone on to commercially refine RO, and will be releasing the retail version soon (Red Orchestra Ostfront 1941-45)....which I'm sure will go a long way towards capturing much of my free time in the near future. \:D In the meantime, I just read this great article on modding, and how the Red Orchestra mod team was able to do what it did so well (enjoy the read):

My god the traitors, how could they go payware,, shoot them!

Only kidding ;\) Yes it's a superb mod - I played it quite a bit, and I'd pay good money for it myself.

I thought you guys would get a kick out of the article! \:D

Widowmaker, I'd hold off for a few more weeks till the retail version is released via Steam online distribution, or over the counter via a traditional boxed product. Red Orchestra-Ostfront will simply blow open the WW2 shooter world with its interactive armored warfare component. This game is already being coined as a "tactical simulator", because it strives to present combined arms operations with a degree of integration yet to be achieved by any other shooter game. It'll take the likes of Panzer Elite and combine it with the excellence of Red Orchestra's infantry/artillery/vehicular functionality, and deliver something completely genre-dominating. I know I'm sounding a bit extravagant in my description, but on all accounts I think the new and improved version of RO is going to send some real shock waves around the gaming world.

Be sure to check out the RO-Ostfront website in the meantime here:

Ok, back to OFF (just thought the parallels in modding experiences was noteworthy enough to mention). \:\)

Thanks for the read Dave. I've been enjoying the RO mod as well. I am still not entirely happy about losing the PC/Mac duality but am hopful that will be rectified quickly.

S!

P.S. Liked your Dr1 skin you posted as well.

As a post script, I stole UT2004 from a friend, downloaded and installed Red Orchestra 3.3...and it is very good! (Shall look forward to the retail version, as I LOVE WW2 FPS'ers

Thanks again for pointing it out!
