It looks very good to me. Similar to Jasta 18 but blue instead of red on forward areas. Is this a historical skin?

A little insight here. Gambit probably used the illustration in the Squadron/Signal DRI book?
(am I correct Gambit?)

This picture got it wrong, the blue should be red.
The Squadron/Signal WWI monographs are error ridden and should be used w/ caution.

Nice skin from a technical stanpoint tho'.

Very nice Gambit looking forward to flying this, blue or red!

On a point of detail I'm pretty sure the final (thin) style of "Greek" upper wing cross as carried by Dr1s did not have an outer black line; just the white border.

Also, if the illustrations in the Osprey Dr1 aces book are accurate, the thiner style of cross when carried on the Dr1 upper wing usually had a white outline at the ends of the cross arms, like the earlier, thicker Greek cross. Tho this was not factory standard on that type of marking, most if not all Dr1s started life with their crosses painted on white squares, so the thinner style of Greek cross would have been a field repaint, not a factory job; so the white ends are plausible. Hence I'm inclined to think the Ospery interpretation is accurate, the photos on the book seem to bear this out.

Hi Gambit, she's looking well!

Another thought, this time re the struts. On the Dr1 the undercarriage and interplane struts were steel tube, definitely not wood. So they would have been painted not "wood effect". The interplane struts, one of my sources (an excellent Airfix Mag article dating from the 1970s) says were wood, sometimes varnished, sometimes painted in undersurface blue, sometimes in uppersurface olive green.

Hello Gambit,

Yes please keep up the good work, the Dr1 has to be one of the most recognised aircraft of the 1914-18 war and a favourite to many.

I am surprised someone else has not pointed you to this site:

http://www.fokkerdr1.com/

Here are some photo's I managed to take around Easter time 2005 of some Replica Dr1's & some other aircraft, hope you find them of interest.

Regards to all - please keep the great skins comming!!

HEY Thx pc777, lov the shots of the dr1's u took they look the nuts m8, i have a lot of C&C & the osprey aces series, and a great REVI mag, no 19,
thx for the dr1 site url, any help is a great help cheers

Hi dasriech, I can only change the default skin in its folder at this time, but i spend my time between quick combat n skinin, so for now i will just swap out , the single skin for each type as i make a new 1, but im sure WM & the OFF team , will be looking too expand on the amount of skins in the air at any given time, pc777 dr1 lineup in the paddock

would be so good 2 reproduce in OFF, fingers crossed

Hello again to all Dr1 fans out there,

Gambit I am glad you liked some of the photo’s, let me know if you would like a high resolution version of any of them, I would be happy to send some to you, keep in mind they are about 2 Mb in size, but I can find a way to make them available to you if you like.

I don’t know if you take requests but one skin I would love to see in the game is an accurate rendition of Werner Voss’s plane. He really is my all time WW1 Ace hero.

If you are interested in getting a good book on Dr.1’s then I would highly recommend the following:

Fokker Dr.I Triplane – A World War One Legend by Paul Leaman

I have been collecting books on Dr.I’s since I was a teenager and this is the best I have come across so far.

I hope you can find a copy of it somewhere as it’s worth every cent.

I also have a lot of Ground to air footage of the Triplanes in the photo above, if I can find somewhere to post movie files I might make some small movies to share.

OK keep up the good work & please don’t fill that lovely Tripe full of holes!!!

PC

OK, technical question: how did you edit skins in Photoshop?

The original texture is in .DDS format, and Photoshop CS2 won't read it. So I worked around that by using Irfanview to convert it to .BMP format, and then I opened it in Photoshop and converted it into .PSD format... But now I can't get it back into .DDS format. Hmm...

So how do you edit your skins?
