I just bought a 6600GT 256MB vid card; but I'm still not getting the performance that I expected over my old FX 5900 Ultra. Right now I'm running at 1280x1024 with everything maxed; except scenes (med), terrain preload (50km), and water (med). I also have several FPS fixes installed with LOMAN (explosions, sky, and water). With all of that, I'm still only averaging 15-25 FPS. Usually mid teens. I've also run 3DMark05, and most of the tests are just crawling...like 1-3 FPS. I have anti-aliasing turned off, and for some reason I can't use even anisotropic filtering.
Could this just be a driver problem? I have the latest NVIDIA drivers (81.85), and I uninstalled the old ones before I loaded the new one. But I noticed that when I installed the newest ones, it didn't install them into a directory like before. Is this something with the newer drivers? Any sugestions?
here's my specs: P4 2.4GHz O/C--> 3GHz 1 GB RAM Geforce 6600 GT AGP8x w/ 256MB RAM 80GB SATA HDD

Although I wouldn't necessarily expect higher Lock On framerates than what you posted, the fact that you say you can't enable AF makes me think something is wrong with your video drivers. I would try a reinstall. Also, with 1GB of RAM, running a terrain preload of 100km should helpp the framerate.

No Use,
I also have a 2.4 Ghz Pentium IV with an ATI X800 XL. If it makes you feel any better, I did not see a performance increase after upgrading from a 9800 XT.
Intel Duo Core 3.16 Ghz, 4 Gigs RAM, Windows Vista 32, ATI Radeon 4800 HD Series, CH HOTAS + Track IR 4, Direct X 11

Most of the places I looked at were in europe. Joe; Is there any kind of program that will make sure all of my old drivers are gone? I've installed the new ones about 3 times, and still nothing. thanks for the help

Driver Cleaner Pro can be had here . Make sure you read the directions first, or you could be sorry.

No Name, I recently got the 6600GT 128MB AGP. My system is similar to yours, ie. P4 2.53 MHz, (not overclocked though)
Previously I had 9800pro. I can't run LOMAC at your settings, but with the same settings I have had with the 9800 now I do see quite an improvement. Same for IL2 (now super smooth!) and FS2004, but and here comes the big but: Battlefield 2 is now a catastrophy, so is Gun and other similar games. Serious stutters even at the lowest settings. With the 9800 I could run BF2 with 4 x anti alias and 4 aniso and in-game settings to medium-high easily. Still, the 6600GT should make BF2 fly...or so I would have thought.
F.E.A.R., Quake and Doom III do however run smoothly
Needless to say I've played around with all the card settings.
I first used 81.75, then went back to 71.xx (whatever), which improved things a little, but I can't help but feel there's someting really screwy about the drivers. I've used driver cleaner as usual, btw. What I also notice, at least on my system is, that NVidia cards still can't handle anti-aliasing as well as ATI cards?! Does this generally still hold true?
How did you overclock your processor to 3.0Ghz, btw, and what cooling are you using?
The trouble with jogging is that, by the time you realize you're not in shape for it, it's too far to walk back.
History repeats itself, because no one listened the first time. Anon

Thanks for the info. I'll try the driver cleaner and see what happens. Stonor Eagle: I just O/C using the BIOS (it really depends on your mobo & BIOS)...there's a few web sites that I used for help; probably best to do a search. For cooling, I use a Thermaltake Sonic tower I bought off ebay; and I have 4 case fans (1 120mm, 2 80mm, and 1 expansion slot fan) in various spots. seems to keep it around 50-52 celcius. (the threshold for a P4 is 55 C). try overclock.net they have some pretty active forums to get you started
