it's an old game.. I think Shockwave bumped up the cockpits, make them clickable, worked over the graphics, added some smoke & fire effects etc. There's probably some good mods out, haven't checked into that yet. I did notice a read me with the patch:

"This file is a starter to increase the level of ground activity in BoB. Typically you will see an addition 30+ objects at each location.
These range from trees to vehicles, to buildings." (then notes on how to apply) I'll try that next!
