I know the stopworks is for the 2d pit, and I get the black bars on the sides in the 2d view. My question has to do with scaling, I guess. My monitor is a 19" 1680X1050. F4AF has that resolution as of the latest patch. Since that isn't a resolution for stopworks pits, will it scale correctly and, more importantly, will the resolution be as sharp (as in running non native res on a LCD tends to produce jaggies)? Anyone out there with experience in this type of setup?

Hi,

The 'pit will fill the screen either horizontally or vertically depending on the aspect ratio.

On your widescreen res, it will have bars to the sides, as it can fill the screen vertically, but not horizontally, as the 'pit itself is a fixed aspect.

Will the default cockpit fill the screen horizontally at 1680 x 1050?

Hi,

No. All the 2D pits are fixed aspect. It is just the way the sim is coded.

Ummmm... maybe I didn't phrase that question correctly. I understand the point about it still having the black bars to the side, and kinda thought it would do that (thanks for the confirmation though). But, will there be a quality loss due to the fact that the pits are drawn at a different resolution than what my monitor runs at? And a little subjective here... if there is a loss, is it minor, or does it kinda defeat the purpose of upgrading the pit in the first place? Just trying to make an informed decision here. Thanks.

(oh, another thought... is there a framerate hit for using these pits?)

Hi,

Oh! I see what you mean.

If the resolution EXCEEDS the design resolution of the 'pit, then yes, quality loss will occur. Whether this loss is distinguishable or not however is subjective, and depends on several factors (monitor, the way the image is stretched by the computer when drawn etc).

Equally, drawing a high-resolution pit in a smaller resolution can result in lost quality also, again depending on how it is resized. Basically: try and it and see. \:\)

I've found the pits to be VERY frame-rate friendly, and very clear.

Enjoy! \:\)

Thanks for the input. Well, I took the plunge, and I have to say, those pits sure are nice (at least the 50 that I got).
