It was SEAD escort.

I was Serpent 1. I flew the mission and we passed over the target ok.

On my way back though, I realised that I was getting instructions about attacking targets over my headset but by now I was on my way home.

So I burned back in but realised I was at bingo so turned back round again and then ran out of fuel and crashed. Didn't read my debrief as I exited due to frustration.

Can anyone give me any advice as to how to process the audio info?

I hear serpent but was it 1.2 etc?

Can you get these calls repeated or put on screen?

Is there a tutorial covering this?

I realise that this is the part that's hard to learn.

Thanks a lot.

Hi McGraw,

it can happen that AWACS gives you a vector to a target (usually airborne) either on your way to or back from your briefed objective. Usually you will hear something like, Serpent 1 attack target at some co-cordinates. The call is repeated untill you answer Wilco or negative. It will be up to you to evaluate if the target assigned is within reach depending on your primary mission, your weapons loadout, your fuel state and possible navigation problems due to damage which you may have sustained during your mission.

In the particular case of fuel consumption you can check how much fuel you have left for your way back to base. I don't remember right now, but I think you have to press twice on button 5 of the ICP and you will have a reading in the DED for how much fuel will remain on landing.

If you are low on fuel climb as much as you can - use a 2,5° angle and go to 32-36'000 feet. Your distance will increase considerably.

Almost right, you have to select the landing steerpoint, then (for sure) click RTN, and 5 twice. This gives the remaining fuel when you will reach the selected steerpoint, according to the current fuel consumption and speed.

McGraw, you will notice the altitude and speed affects the fuel consumption, so make changes to your flight to ge a non-zero value!!!

Thanks very much.

Is there any way of repeating these calls or displaying them on screen?

How do you acknowledge or reject?

I really felt I was letting my side down last night!

Also keep in mind there could be other "Serpent" flights...i.e. "Serpent 2", "Serpent 3" etc..
I usually drown out the erraneous info by setting my channels to both "Package" and "Flight" during my mission. This ensures I don't hear commands that are meant for other flights and get a case of the "..uh..was that for me?"s \:D

Radio subtitles not featured in F4AF.

Radio channel changes are performed on the ICP (keypad) and viewed on the DED (LED green text display).

If things aren't too hectic I do recommend setting a channel to Proximity (radio calls within 40nm). It helps give you one more layer of SA if Migs venture out to play. \:\)
