I currently have a P4-3.0 Ghz (800fsb, ht) with 1gb DDR400 ram, and Ati Radeon 9800 Pro video card. The unit is running good with Windows XP Home (sp2) and seems to be getting good frame rates in F4:AF with the only big and noticeable stutters around the airbases.
Would it be worth the cost of approximately $400 to upgrade the pc to a P4-3.4 E Ghz, and add another gig of DDR400 ram, to see any improvement in frame rates?
Or, would that add no noticeable improvement while playing F4?

check my system specs in sig... I can't use the max graphics settings, and I have trees disabled, but my system has no problems running AF. Yours should be rocking and rolling no problem!

I remember reading about an issue where the F-16 (maybe others too) LOD's weren't scaled right or something, like it draws the whole A/C at too far a distance thus draining FPS especially around busy airbases...maybe this will be corrected and your stutters will then disappear.
Even with my limited system however, I have not yet experienced the "slideshow" effect some people complain about around airbases.

One of the worst would be Taegu on day 2 or 3 of Iron Fortress. I say day 2 or 3 because by then several new squadrons have moved in. Becomes "unlandable" for me, just pauses and slows too much to be able to land.
No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!

The key to Iron Fortress, oh here goes logic again - damn i hate when that does that, is to hit all 8 surrounding bridges on the first flight. Get the BARCAPs up and keep your 4 bases alive.
Then locate and bomb the strips that house the 29's and keep em down by Preplanned CAS on their Engineers.
BAI's over enemy build up at the bridges will leave them sitting like fish in a barrel. Take yur shotgun and...
Once the ground is settled and the air threats brought to a halt you can work your strategics in, get your bridges fixed and start rolling the troops up into new realestate.
I'm useing a 2.2 AMD with a Gig of Dual data Dual Channel and a 256 Meg vid card and only noticed PC related stutters once. Dont think my 1.7 with a Gig and a 128 would fair much differently. That was Iron Fortress (day 2 or 3) and down to one strip - the price you pay for not taking advice. All that traffic on one strip can put a load mon the comp - plus noticed a lot of cloud too.
Don't forget to drop your tanks on the way in! LOL!

Im running the following
AMD 3800+ 2 X 7800 GTX's 2Gb Corsair 3200 C2 ram
Game looks like an old game from the 90's..the graphics are so dated its not funny.
Playing at 1600 x 1200 with all options on SUPER ULTRA EXTREME REALISM the planes look like crap (pardon the French). Sure Lock On has its bugs but the graphics are certainly from this decade.
I got sucked into the marketing BS thinking it was "all new graphics"> boy was I wrong.

Intel Core 2 Quad CPU, Q6600 @ 2.40 ghz, 3.25Gb RAM, ATI Radeon HD 4870 1ghz. Crown Royal, rocks. "Guns guns guns!" "You know, some people think that dandelions are weeds. But you know... uh... I always think, who the hell decided tulips were so great?"

Slick, if you truly want better framerates in other games/sims as well games (not only AF I mean), I suggest you better buy a GFX 800XT card for your 400USD and try to sell the old one. AntonyL59, what are you talking about ? I have LO as well as F4AF. GFX in F4:AF are great IMHO. LO is indeed better (only) in that department, but limited to one battlefield. I guess it's time to upgrade those 2 GF7800 GFX cards, it's not F4:AF. Must be your system.
