IvanK i like to look at it like this, there is your default AA mode with CRM RWS that your plane defaults to when you enter it.
Then there is MRM (medium range missle mode) that you get by pressing the m key and this will automatically configure your MFDs and radar and such for a medium range encounter.
Then there is dogfight mode that you get by pressing d key and will configure your mfds and radar into ACM mode and select appropriate weapons for a close encounter.
Then there is cancel missle mode which you use to cancel either MRM or dogifight mode and will take you back to the default mode that your plane was in before going to a missle mode. to cancel either missle modes press c
On a real f-16 the switch for dogfight mode and MRM mode are the main switch under the thumb on the throttle so that should give you an idea of how important they are.
It sounds to me like what you are doing is reconfiguring your default MFD set up to a an ACM mode and then having to click a lot of stuff to get back to CRM RWS when it would be faster for you to hit d which takes you to dogfight mode and then cycle though the differant ACM modes in dogfight mode then when you want to go back to long range scanning you will simply have to hit c to get back to where you want.
There is no right way or wrong way to do any of this stuff. But for my personal prefferance, which is speed, i use the method i described above.
Hope this makes sence.
