Here is my effort. It started as an "Ackers Barnes" design then took on a life of its own. The seat a representation of the Martin Baker MK10/SJU5 variant.

There is a Sub woofer in the base and another in the back but I am yet to get them working satisfactorly. Anyone know how to connect these to a 5.1 sound system ... what wires go where

5.1 means you get front L/R, rear L/R and EITHER a center or a subwoofer. Not both.
You'll need to setup your sound card so that one of the oulets is for the sub and not the center channel. Once you have that output, you'll need to send that signal to an amplifier and then on to the sub.
You might need to supply more info. I dont know what kind of sub system you're talking about. Is it a separate woofer that you picked up from somewhere like Ebay or is it part of a 5.1 sound "system" like a Creative.
The sound card doesnt amplify it and yu cant hook teh sub directly to the card unless it is a "powered" sub.
The card only supplies a flat line signal. When you setup the card for sub output, it only sends the low frequencies out of that output.
If you want both woofers going, then you need a splitter from electronics store and split the signal frm the card and send each signal to two amplifiers for the subs. Its really hard to tell what type system you are working with. But thats the general idea.

Your seat is looking good. Nice work on the headrest.
The printouts of the switch panels are cool. But look at this and see if you dont think they would look cooler ! You could even hook them up with a few more interface boxes.

5.1 means 5 main speakers plus 1 sub hence 5.1

the 5 = front L/R + rear L/R + center speaker
The .1 is the sub

the center and sub are normally located on the same jack has
a stereo pair on a pc sound card

I have a speaker in the base and a speaker in the back. each speaker is connected to its own separate Amp. The input to each Amp is a standard 6.5mm plug. The Amps and the speakers themselves came from a couple of old gaming "Aura Interactors"

I have enough splitters to split anything \:\) I have been splitting the signal from the speaker wires that go to the 5.1 woofer. It works however there are "gaps" in the sound as a Pan the view. (In IL2FB)

Ivan, split the sub output at the sound card. Then send each signal to one sub amp. Dont split the speaker wires.

Sounds like you are using aura bass shakers?

if so these shouldnt really be producing much sound at all, but should be creating lots of low frequency
vibrations

yeah you should split the sub output at the sound card if possible, for best results

Yes I guess thats what they are they came out of the Aura interactor back paks.

The Sound card is an Audigy.

I have split the outpt from the sound card (Centre and Sub orange connection) with one lead going to the Centre large speaker Sub woofer and the other to Aura amp. Not very succesful, all I get is continous vibration from the seat speaker. No base effects etc when firing guns.

If I send the Centre/Sub speaker lead direct to the Aura Amp input the seat and seatback speakers work well but only when looking directly ahead. As soon as you move your ahead away from the 10--2 O clock position all sound to the seat and seatback speakers is removed.

Check to ensure that the soundcard is setup correctly. On my card, you can only select from "center' OR "sub". I cannot have both.
Then qualify the subs. Only hook up one at a time. Check to see if they work.
I'm going to hazard a guess that you are setup for center sound. Not fo sub.
You can also quaily the subs by trying ANY other speaker you have laying around.

Nice setup! I also have the same sound issue as you have described. My setup uses an Audigy card set to 5.1. I have the sub(orange) going into a subamp that is split to a Clark transducer(under my seat) and an Aura Bass Shaker (floor next to rudder pedals), I have the L/R rear(blue)going to an Aura Interacter cushion amp. I use the L/R front-center (black) to my e-dimensional FX headset. I get decent sound and vibrations from all 3 sources, but when I turn my head away from center I lose the sub/vibration effect. I have IL-2 set to surround sound.
