The Athlon 64 is a hybrid 32/64 bit cpu.
It's designed for 32bit and 64bit systems and can switch between both bit sizes without any problems.

I turned aa and aniso off, and switched off triple buffering and temporal aa. This could have been the problem. I forgot that ATI also has this option. \:\)

I'll keep you updated on my progress.

I forgot to tell that I always get the following message during the installation procedure. The programm installs without problems nonetheless.

"The drive you want to install on is probably not suitable for this program, because...

-it is a network drive or an exchangeable drive.

-there's not enough space left on the hd.

The space needed is an estimate value depending on certain aspects of your target drive and the memory needed for the setup wizard."

I think this message is not important. Maybe the hd size is too big or whatever. Strange, because my system drive is only 20 GB.

In no way it's an exchangeable drive or doesn't have enough space left, believe me.

Dont use a DVD or double density CDROM for installation if you have any install problems.

64bit CPU MBs may not require any memory workarounds, a guy I helped getting LB2 going ran into this on his new system. We think its cause the new MB accesses the memory directly.

I moved this installaion instruction to the Getting it to work thread. I think it's more appropriate there.

Try copying your LB2 discs onto different discs and use those - that fixed the problem I had with AZR on high detail.

I already tried to make images of the cd's, the second one also contains the corrupt file.
Changing the drive may help. I'll see.
I looked very closely and I didn't find any scratches on the disc.
Damn.

What drive are you using to install/read the media from?

Is it a DVD drive? If so, use a CDROM drive instead.

It's a CDROM drive \:\)
I'll try the DVD drive instead.
By the way, I've never had any problems with old games images before.

I recommend make images of the discs to your HD and mount them with Daemon. Its quicker and more reliable than any CD/DVD-drive... if the images are not corrupt that is.

I agree 100%
If you have the space it's the best way to go.
Besides it lets you keep your precious originals safely tucked away in their jewel case, locked in your home safe! ;-)

I want to quote myself

Damn.
Reading helps.

Maybe my English is too bad to make clear that I already made cd images.

The image of the second disc contains the same error.
I also tested the original cd with IsoBuster 1.9 and I found out it's an uncoverable read error in sector 109001.
Alcohol120% informs me of an error in the same sector.
If I choose the error skipping function in Alcohol120% I can produce an image that contains an error at the very same location.

Conclusion: I already did what you try to suggest me. I did it without any success.

Would be nice to get a non-corrupt version of the azr_h.map file from somewhere. ;\)

Before you suggest I should try to make an image from the other drive-I already did that. The error is the same.
It's not a drive-related problem.

azr_h.map comes in at a whopping 235 megs... Someone needs to direct transfer for you.

Yep, exactly. Unfortunately it's the biggest of the map files. :|

Yep, exactly. Unfortunately it's the biggest of the map files. :|

Megaupload etc. could work, too. There are services tat allow file sizes up to 1GB.

Further compressing the file doesn't help much. I tested that on the next biggest azr_m.map file (ca. 65MB) and I could only shrink it to 97.8% with 7-zip using the highest settings.
They've compressed the files really efficiently and that 9 years ago \:\) .

I don't know if the files on the second CD are essential at some point in the game. If not I would have to live with lower detail scenery, I guess.

When I had errors with AZR High, I used the medium detail option without mishap.
