After having done a fresh install of Windows I'm currently busy with re-installing my favourite sims - and just like the last time, I again run into problems with installing LB2
, only I've forgotten how I solved them the last time  ...
I can install LB2 (I don't use the default path but "E:/Games/Jane's Combat Simulations/Longbow 2", which is where I always used to have it), but
the maps won't decompress: I get the "decompressing maps"-message, and after 2 seconds it says "maps decompressed", but the progress-bar remained empty and nothing has been decompressed
.
When I try to start LB2 the screen switches to LB2's default resolution, then I get an error-message in the background while the intro starts; I can watch the intro, but as soon as the menu appears (the camp) I get another 2 memory-errors and CTD
.
I'm running XP Pro SP2, LB2 (German version) is patched to 2.09e including the DDU, and the memory is limited to 256MB via the boot.ini respectively PositiveG's database (tried both ways); the no-CD fix (patched .exe, with all maps copied from both CDs to a newly created "maps"-folder, and "speechms.tre" and "wart.tre" copied into LB2's root-directory) doesn't work, either (I get prompted for the 2nd CD, and no matter whether it's in the drive or not, no way to start this sim).
Any ideas how to get this sim running?
Any way to manually decompress the maps? Any ideas appreciated!
