OK then, after failing to get LB2 running, even after finding a voodoo3 AGP card \:\( I'm thinking of building a retro PC specifically for LB2.

My question is: Which 3dfx graphics card should I be looking out for?

PCI or AGP??

When I played LB2 first time round, I had a Matrox Millennium 2 AND an Orchid Righteous, would it be best ti try and source these two cards???

I also had a Righteous 3d some time in a different life \:D
But I'd go with 2 Voodoo2 cards (SLI) PCI and any AGP 2d-card (Millennium G200 or something).

My Voodoo3 AGP renders LB2 perfectly on my AMD K6-2 300 mhz machine. Maybe the card is bad, or there is some other problem?

TNT2 and 2 Voodoo2 12Meg cards in SLI was what I had back in the day. It was considered top-end and ran LB2 perfectly. I may have one of the Voodoo2's laying around here, plus an SLI cable (or 2). I could be talked into parting with it pretty cheap, but E-bay would be a good bet, too. Make sure you get the 12M Voodoo2's, if I remember correctly you needed those for SLI.

Correction: I seem to remember you needed 12M Voodoo 2's for 800X600 resolution, the 8M may (or may not) run in SLI mode. Find out for sure before you buy them.

You won't go wrong with PCI or AGP in a 3DFX card.

If I remember correctly their AGP cards didn't take advantage of the AGPs features anyhow and weren't much faster than their PCI brethren.

A number of used/older mainboards may not even have an AGP slot.

I have three used PCI Voodoo 3 2000's and one AGP 5500. I may use the V3-2Ks in my fast machines for secondary monitors (great cards for this as my secondary monitors are primarily used for text). Then build a 1GHz-ish Pentium III 256MB machine to put my AGP card in for retro gaming (LB2, F15, USAF, etc.), put Windows 98 on it, get a KVM and a way I go.

Just an update really, snatched an old PIII, 733MHz PC from work. Have put 256MB RAM in it and have procured a Matrox Millemium G200 and TWO Voodoo 2 3Dfx cards for SLI from ebay...total cost including Longbow 2 and manual...£36.00

Just waiting for the voodoo's to arrive now.

By the way, is it just me, or does everyone who goes on ebay to sell stuff end up buying???

housequake why exactly couldnt you get lb2 running ?
did you limit the memory to 366mb ??

actually it was 2 v2's to run in 1024x768
1 v2 would only do 800x600 unless the game didnt use the z buffer like novalogic's f-16 + mig29
the v1 would only do 640x480 or 800x600 if the game didnt use the z buffer
you can mix 8mb + 12mb voodoo's but they would be seen as 2 8mb cards

Hi Davros,

My home machine has an MX440 and the Glide Wrapper won't work on it, something to do with chroma keying.

I've only got 256MB RAM on my home PC so didn't try limiting the memory.
