nice work Bob. We brought the kids to an animal park which had a butterfly exhibit. They had this large butterfly that wings appeared blue. They really aren't, it's the ultra violet light hitting the back of the wings.

This one has a name like "Owl's eye"

I only had my 18-70 lens, didn't know this place was there, and didn't feel like lugging the big lens around. Next time I'll bring the bigma ;\)

that ultra violet light one is nice \:D - looks like he's been in a fight or 2 with something..

has the bigma got macro capability? or has it a really close focus distance?

What...no prop/wing blur :p ???

Nice photos---did you use a tripod and remote release or handheld? And whatever the lens is the bokeh is pretty good too! Whenever I try these I wind up having to manually focus as the DOF is measured in millimeters.

MUHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA - HAHHAHAHAHAHA

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA, hehhhhh sorry... tripod?!!!! at the time of day and temp it was, these things don't just settle and say hey take my picture!!! they land for a matter of seconds before they're off again.. ;\)

some were shot AI focus (the slightest breeze and it looks like an earthquake @ 300mm) others i shot manual focus -- the 600mm ones were all manual as auto focus doesn't work with it

majority of shots were @ ISO200 some 400 and the 600mm ones @ 1600

all shots handheld no monopod etc.. i did use my knee to brace for some shots..

oh and wing blur.. this do u? ;\)

Cracking shots Bob,do you have a macro or were you just shooting from a distance with the 300mm x 2?

Number 6 and 12 are my favourites.Awesome!

the elcheapo 70-300 Sigma i own has macro on it - its a bugger to shoot with but it does allow me to keep my distance when shooting these things..

i'm prolly going to purchase a 105mm macro sooner or later \:\)

managed to process 1 more inbetween waiting for bridgestone to get back to me with feedback..

Nice shots! I've been shooting a lot of insects lately and my "distance macro" is a Tamron 70-300mm with macro, and I have to echo your desire for a good 100ish macro prime. Hopefully this year I can find a good one used.
