Hey guys, I read this thread, since money seems very, very hard to come by: http://www.simhq.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=120;t=000027

But what about taxes? What's best, High tax rate? Normal? And why? Sorry, just got this game a few days ago, and am kinda struggling trying to get a good campaign start, but running out of cash in the war of attrition with the bloody Galls...

The best tax rate is the highest you can set while keeping the populace happy. So just survey your cities and if they are extremely happy (say 150% and above) increase taxes, if they are extremely pissed (say 70% lower taxes) and at the same time do things to increase thier well being so you can get it higher.

Also remember that even if they are happy and you have a very high tax rate, you may still want to lower it occasionally, as it causes the population to grow, thus allowing you to build new buildings and step up to the the next available technology tier, which consequently allows access to better arms/weapons.
