just emailed you.

-----------
but here we have moved our focus to the radar now.

that blip in the middle is just a test blip, hopefully tomorrow we get it to behave properly.

Nice picture Steve, the Blue Fox is finally alive \:\)

The sweep moves smoothly left-right leaving a trail, and there's already a manually operated radar cursor for target lock - we will make a video soon when there is correct behavior of its basic functionality.

The layout is strictly based on an article by the brazilian "Warplanes" of the 80's showing a diagram of a 2 vs. 2 air combat that occurred in the first days of Falklands wars, and also by extensive study and exchange of emails between me and IvanK, and a fellow ex-SHAR pilot that IvanK knows, leading to this layout for a start of a B Sweep air-to-air scan mode:

however, the grid is probably refreshed by the Sweep (just like in Cyrano's MirageIIIE radar), if it is so, it will be altered.

Very nice! How many modes does the Blue Fox radar have, one wonders, and will you all be able to find resources for the HUD air combat symbology (assuming it HAS air combat symbology)?

we think it is pretty basic.

possibly what you see above is about it.

maybe there might be a switch to boresight mode, we're not sure. but there is not TWS mode.

as far as developing is going. there was an easy approach that I thought i'd look into. it turns out to be an FPS killer from 90fps - to 5 fps, so I thought, not that way. aim now to be able to actually plot contacts meaningfully on it. will probably manage this tomorrow.

dante with his contacts is more knowledgable than me on this - i just try and program it how he thinks it should work.

edit
sorry it was late, i hadnt fully read your post. yes there is some different HUD symbology. we're not sure if the sea harrier went out with avionics fully ready for the aim9L - it might not have had radar cued IR seeker limiting it to firing uncaged - where the pilot would see the missile doing its search.

we need to find more information on that point because it affect weather or not the missile can sucessfully lock onto a jet in its all aspect way.

In my opinion, the trackering head must be locked and stationary to pick up the weak IR signal for a head on shot. this would only be possible if there was a radar cued lock or a mode were the seeker just points directly ahead and the pilot points his aircraft directly at the target in sight - that should give the IR camera doo dar thing time to see the that it is an IR source above the background.

but then in sharkeys book he describes selecting uncaged and radar off so as to not warn a target.

dante has been improving the the cockpit in particular the glass.

I'm slight anoyed that he has added a mirror: it means I probably now have to start pondering how to render to a mirror. agh.

something to do with opengl stencils I imagine.

It has this B-sweep AA scan mode, and STT (Single Target Tracking) mode once a contact is locked (cursor is actually a box and it changes to a circle over locked target, we have to modify this as we received feedback from a Shar pilot saying our b-sweep and grid was good, but the radar cursor was actually a box instead of a cross or brackets); it has also air-to-surface and boresight modes, four modes in total. It's coming along nicely, both the graphics depiction as well the radar logic and parameters in the code.

Btw, our site is down, website traffic was very high - surprisingly high - we had thought that 20gig limit would normally be sufficient. We should be returning to normal as soon as we can.

This just gets better and better every update, that pit is sublime, that wide angle shot is jaw dropping.

Great work on the radar guys.

STT: target locked at 20 degree to the right, 8 miles. Sweep turns to a steady beam. According to feedback from a real SeaHarrier pilot, the cursor is a square then turns to a circle over locked target.
We also know that HUD symbology like horizon line and IAS, alt, hdg, are superimposed in the radar display - this will be done but we should focus in the kind of information is given to the pilot once a target is locked:

That's starting to look amazing! Really great to see how you're really making steady progress.

BTW, you know what'd be really cool for the cockpit glass? Those scratches that reflect sunlight that you see in LOMAC too.

Keep it up!

Very Cool. I'm really liking what I see here.

Dante, will you all add in an option for Argentine flyers that allows them to get low-altitude fuzing for Mk-82 bombs? That was one problem that plagued the Argentine air force and navy, because they'd hit British ships and the bombs wouldn't detonate! I'm sure a lot of our South American friends would like a rematch, only with proper bombs!

part of the fun of a dynamic campaign is to change things...

...like steal plate for runway extension, and maybe give up something else?

just to remind forum viewers - these screenshots come from the system loading up in a quick loading test environment- which is why the terrain is flat.

today we did more radar stuff and added that radar target thing on the hud.
