I'm slowly rebuilding my system after a hard crash, and I'm having the same problem with both RW sims. They installed fine. However, they CTD on the startup screens while loading the "comm system."

This is a XP system, and everything should be back up to the current version/patch level. The one hardware addition since the crash has been a Nvidia Geforce4 TI 4200. Yes, I've downloaded the latest drivers. Sound card is a SB Live. Help!

Sorry, no clue. I've just went through the same story with one of my "auxillary" PCs, but no trouble. Have you tried deleteing the "game.cfg"-file and start. This forces the game to create a fresh one (don't know if there's an old default installed from the CD, if so this could help).
Do you have any kind of FW active ? If EEAH/CH isn't allowed to get through it could possible force a CTD when loading comm's.

Are you using Zone Alarm firewall, if so give the game permission and it will be ok. thats the only thing that I know that stops at a com error.

This sounds similer to the problems I had when building my new system with XP on it. Believe it or not it was the latest drivers for my Ti-4400 that were stopping things at either the comms screen or at the options screen. I had to go back to earlier driver versions to get it to load and run properly.

If I load any of the 4x.xx series drivers it'll give me trouble. I know a lot of people are running the later drivers, but for some reason it's just not going to happen for me.

Might want to give it a try.

My boy, you may be right. ZA is supposedly set up to allow anything outgoing, but I'll look closer.

Great ideas, guys. Just no joy yet, and I've tried all three. Keep thinking, I miss my inverted lawn mowers!
