Hey guys,

Fixer, Davey and I met on ICQ last night and wanted to fly a bit. But we ran into a problem:

When Fixer is there he usually hosts because he's on DSL (or is it cable??), Davey and I are on dial-up with a 56K modem. I had a few very good flights with Fixer before but last night neither Davey nor I did even see Fixer's skirmish in the list.

We had the correct IP address, we could ping it, Fixer had added our IP addresses to his Zone Alarm's localzone.
Just for fun I tried to host and Fixer and Davey could join my game (we had bad lag, though).

I've had this before the last week when I tried to fly with Fixer and if I remember correctly we even tried it with ZA off - without success.

So, any ideas why Davey and I couldn't see Fixer's skirmish?

But usually you at least see the hosts campaign/skirmish in your list of campaigns/skirmishes.
If you are able to join and how good it works (lag-wise) is another matter.

You'll be on about the ground units not moving in a minute!

Volker & Fixer, sorry I had to abandon the chat wihtout a farewell, wifey came home and demanded I open a bottle of wine...

Might see you guys tonight. Hopefully I can break the sequence of crashing every time I get into a MP game...it would be good to even crash after about 2 mins!!!!!!!

You beat me to it Volker .

To clarify, I am on cable, ZApro.

I could see and play a skirmish Volker set up, but they could no see mine.

I set multiplayer to "Internet TCP/IP" and left the ip blank.

Opened a skirmish and set myself up as blue.

I then waited with the skirmish running.

What have I missed??

Another addendum:

At first we tried a saved skirmish that Fixer and I started almost two weeks ago (Taiwan 5) then we tried with a new standard skirmish, Taiwan 4 - no luck with both.

Hi,

You said you could pinged the host, but have you run a trace as well? Were they time outs on some routers?

Here's the tracer proggy i use: http://www.pingplotter.com/dlm_start.php?ProgID=3

Just a thought.

Enfo.

Good thought Enfo,

I used "NeoTrace" to Volker, no timeouts although it was > 300ms

The ping and trace situation was as always with pings around 300 - 340 ms.
Not good but usually playable.

The strange thing is it worked very well about two weeks ago. Fixer, PCriddle and I had a few great games. Then last week I couldn't see Fixers game and then last night both Davey and I didn't see the game.

The other way around with me as host worked apart from bad lag.

(I think I'll start working on laying the cables for DSL )

Davey, we were already speculating why you left so suddenly. Thoughts about wifey, dirty dishes and rolling pins entered out heads

Looks like I'll have to rebuild EECH tonight.

VB, Davey, I hope to see you about 21:00 BST on ICQ.

Davey, He's german alright, doesn't understand our expressions. Annoying isn't it.

You haven't heard me talking, yet! That would change your opinion

Fixer, I'll be there tonight.

One other thing (though it could be a stupid question): have you rebooted your computer since the problems started or do you leave it running? I've noticed that since the problems started your IP address has not changed.
