My concern with this dual release is whether some future addons might perhaps require the Deluxe version.
Hopefully this won't be the case, but it would be annoying to buy into a corner and not realize it.

Okay, the G1000 is the Garmin integrated glass cockpit. It is like a new panel for several planes (think Learjet style LCD screens), one of the Cessnas, Mooney Bravo, those sort.
They consider the G1000 versions of those planes to be separate, so they count them in the new aircraft. The other new ones are the ski plane, and the Grumman Goose.
I couldn't tell you anything about the ATC feature, as I do not have my copy yet (*grumble grumble* stupid Best Buy). I have talked to someone who did get his hands on the standard version, and he said he was able to check the ATC screen, but I don't know if it is more detailed or functional in the Deluxe version.
Your list also didn't mention the SDK included with the Deluxe version, which is a must have if you are planning on customising things. Although I would be shocked if Microsoft didn't eventually release it for free.

It's a player controlled "tower controller" that Deluxe has. yes, you get to BE the ATC in the Deluxe version. I don't know why anyone would settle for the standard.

There is a thriving community of ATC and non ATC personnel that like to provide a real time ATC coverage on online servers.
Maybe something akin to real life pilots flying imaginary aircraft on a computer.
Personally. I would rather fly into a human controlled airspace than a computer controlled airspace.
FSX seems to me to be geared for online flight and playability. I think in time there will be many online servers and busy airports. For that i will be glad to have an real atc.

Also, I think the SDK allows you to create your own missions.

Why do they bother with this scam of 2 versions?

I wonder if it's because they know most long time players will pay more simply because it's available? I'm waiting to see if the added planes and ATC are worth the $20 bucks extra, but the SDK will probably go out separately later in any case.

When i bought the deluxe version the difference was 10 € only, that was a no-brainer. If my information is right these are the bonus planes: Maule M7-235 on skis Maule M7-325 floats Beech Baron / Garmin G1000 Cessna 172 / Garmin G1000 Mooney Bravo / Garmin G1000 iirc Grumman Goose (this plane alone is imo worth the price difference, that is: if it isn't included in the standard version) Here a screenshot of the aircraft selection :

For basically the same cost of development, they are able to make a smaller gross margin on the mass market version of the game, but make a signifcantly fatter margin on the deluxe "Enthusiast" version. with basically no, or very little, increased cost to them. Slick move, actually.

From my reading last night, the Deluxe control tower mode can't be used offline to direct AI traffic.
Can any Deluxe owners confirm this?
