I find that the 3D cockpit is awfully dark and most of the time hard to read even with lights turned on in the daytime if you don't have the sun behind you.

Anyone else feel Shockwave should lighten up the 3D panels ?

Yes. Hopefully your post on the shockwave Board will get some traction...

Since there are _None_ available, they should also produce a WW II German AFB for their excellent series of WW II German AC as most other major developers do for their AC releases.

I would buy it in a Heartbeat

Rhein Maine would due for a start.

Jib,

Look in your EFFECTS folder for a file called, "fx_vclight." Can you tell me what the modified date on that file is?

Scott.

That's the right one - I just wanted to make sure you were looking at the same thing.

I have it too, but not as dark as JIB02. But I can read it without the lights on in the daytime and I can of like the effect it gives the way it is for me. It might be different systems that maybe the cause of this.

I don't see an issue - i can read those gauges w/o difficulty.

I see these gauges as awfully dark on my screen as well. My monitor should be reasonable well calibrated so that it doesn't change the readability. Also, the histogram for those screenshots is very much on the left side.

The gauges are readable to me, but I can clearly see why Jib has issues with them.

I think it's the time of day. Look at these pictures taken at 10am in the morning. All of these are Wings of Power aircraft from first release to present:

B17 "Flying Fortress"

P51D "Mustang"

P47 "Thunderbolt"

Focke Wulf 190D "Long Nose"

Scott,

You seem to have the sun at your back in those pictures. Try them with the sun in front in the morning. Big difference. All the other aircraft are ok except the FS190. It is too dark and even with lights on it is not much better...

This is just before Dusk. The sun is to the side and back, but completely off the dash. Look at the dash color (not the right side where the sun is shining) - they are all very close.

Here are shots of the same aircraft at midnight. The other three aircraft are green which makes them appear brighter, but if you look at the dash panel, they are all very close.

I wonder if this may be a video driver issue, or a slight difference between ATI and NVIDIA. Do you know what video card and driver version you are using?

Scott,

In the FW190 you can't even see the cowl open and close lever until you get up close and have the sun behind you. The 190 panel is still too dark because of the color of the panel.

How can we make it lighter. As you can tell I am not the only one with this problem. If you can't fix easy then let us know. Is there a way to brighten the lights in the cockpit more than what we have. That might help...

Let's put this one to bed...

Scott,

I have a Nvidia FX5600 Ultra. I am unable to change the gamma. There is no setting for that with the drivers that work with this card.

I have a Viewsonic 21" monitor 810 and the contrast and brightness are at 90% and it does no good to increase either.

I checked the FW190 in IL2 and it is reasonable compared to yours. I need a fix for this. It is just too dark to see some of the controls.

I believe you can brighten the cockpit textures and the gauge textures.

Scott.

Inside each aircraft directory is a TEXTURE directory, and in that are the bitmap (BMP) textures for the aircraft.

In the GAUGES folder are ZIP files. In those files are all the textures for the gauges.

I use Photoshop to edit the textures, but there are other programs out there that can be used as well, but not sure which ones work well and which ones don't.

Scott.
