I was under the impression that this is the x-box game. Has anyone received this title after ordering from there. If they have then I will.

All I know is that I have ordered the PC version from Electronics Boutigue. Their webpage no longer says "preorder" but rather "usually ships in 24 hours."

Same here in Rhode Island. The XBox version was available (I got it), but the clerk said the PC version would be another 3 to 5 days coming.

The "official" WoW website is up today: Gathering\'s Wings of War website No more information here than what's already been available on the "unofficial" Czech site (in fact a bit less at the moment, and perhaps primarily for Xbox players).

You're right about the Dolphin mistake Polovski, they're pictured the S.E.5 instead, and they've got the Nieuport experimental triplane pictured for the N17. The unofficial site now has an active Hangar section too, which has nicer artwork that you can click on for closeup viewing, and more complete descriptions of the featured planes. I think we may be seeing the two seperate platform websites for the game (Xbox vs. PC). Hopefully the forum on the unofficial site will go online soon so we can make suggestions for improving this already stunning looking game!

The unofficial Czechoslovakian site has been updated and has moved to: http://wow.gamecenter.cz/ On the Hangar page several of the aircraft are listed as "This plane is included in demo!" Perhaps a Demo of the game will be out soon. I have done some searching but have not found anything...yet!

Glad you caught that GregW (hehehe....and Polovski too....delete your text will you ). So looks like a demo is coming out, huh? Well this is certainly good news, as it shows that there's some effort to promote the game further (beyond its initial release). Maybe this demonstrates there will be additional support for the game in the future also..........X (fingers crossed)!

FlyXwire S! The website you gave for Gathering has a forum up and running. It is here. http://www.gathering.com/forums/index.php?c=7 Or click on the Gathering icon bottom right of main website page. There are a number of Gathering games which have got forums. Maybe we should suggest to have a Wings of War forum- I'm sure it will come anyway.

Yeah, there are a few errors and ommissions on the Gathering site's "hangar". They say the Camel is the 2F1 version ("Ship's Camel" IIRC)which I think normally had 1xVickers and 1xLewis, and I think it had a longer-span top wing too, the WoW plane looks more like an F1 Camel albeit it shows centre-section Lewis guns, appreciate there was variety in armament (have seen a pic of a home defense camel with 2xLewis and no Vickers).
Also they have the SSW as an SSW D III - this had plain, Albatros-style wingtips. The WoW plane has horn-balanced ailerons which by my sources makes it a D IV.
They're also missing a good many planes, eg I can't see what they claim the Taube to be, which seems to me to be an Aviatik B II with some Alb C III features.
I presume the X-Box version has the same planes.
Still, we're making progress.

Ivor H, I think they're ok with their SSW D.III, as the aircraft recieved design changes to the ailerons (horn-extensions), the rudder (gained an enlarged angular profile), and eventually to the elevator too, all to reduce pilot control forces and improve maneuverability. These changes all occurred after the prototypes were tested at the first 1918 fighter trials at Adlershof, in which a small production batch of D.IIIs were ordered for front-line evaluation. The SSW D.IV is quite distinguishable by its high-aspect ratio wings (narrow cord compared to wingspan). P.S. Just got notice that my pre-ordered copies of WoW have shipped from EB games (dated yesterday)............yeehaaaaaaa!

Thanks FlyXWire, my Putman is the 1970 edition so I'm a bit out of date eg it records "breaking news" that The Rumpler Rubild is probably the C VI and not a variant of the C VII. The descriptions of the planes sound like they were written by somebody who knew what they were doing which is a good sign.
I should have noticed that the chord of the WoW's top wing is broader than the bottom one. Having said that it seems that D III's without the aileron "tabs" did see squadron service, the Putnam carries a shot of such a D III said to be of Kest 4b with a white fuselage band and a decorated pilot in front. anyway I'll correct my list on the other thread, as this is definitely a D III as you say, thanks!
What do you make of WoW's German C-type?
BTW I came across a cheap second-hand copy of Rowan's Dawn Patrol, head to head (MP)edition, nice condition. It's on a CD not floppies but nary a mention of Pentiums, or Windows even, in the required spec. Do you recall that one? From the manual it can even shoot game videos like IL2. Hopefully I'll get it to run using DOSBox or something. Graphics don't look much worse than Direct Draw RB, presumably this was a competitor of RB3's predecessors(1995). Must see if i can find an online review.
Anyway, what do you make of that C-type? I reckon Aviatik B II with a bit of Alb C III thrown in.
And do report back when you've taken WoW for a spin!

Dawn Patrol was a fine game - sort of like an interactive book where you fly the planes of the aces written about.
I believe it was by Rowan who went on to make Flying Corps and Battle of Britain. They also made a WW2 title "Overlord" and jet sim "Navy Strike" - all excellent titles in their day.
I remember well making batch files to get the EMS and XMS memory allocation right to get them to run - if you get them to work let us know I stilll have them (somewhere).

I found our C-Type Ivor (perhaps): Well, like you said in your other posting (in another thread), this plane looks allot like an Aviatik B.I/B.II, except for the crew positioning and the lack of the inset lobed tail. Perhaps Silver Wish settled on this rare Albatros C.III because it could "double" for the look of the early Aviatiks too (with rear gunner that is).

Yeah, FlyXwire, that looks like it, tho the WoW C-type's wings look Aviatik, weren't the Alb CIII's nearly the same span? I reckon Silver Wish have been working from different photos & have merged the types! Alb C III fuselage with Aviatik wings, easy to do they all look much the same to me anyway. Who knows, with the Feldfliegerabteilungen operating mixtures of types for much of the war, maybe they did it in RL too! It's a pity they didn't give us a late-war C-type like a Halb or a Rumpler to go with the Roland.
BTW, have you tried SDOE-WW1? They have a nice Aviatik C I (tho straight rudder LE, not comma type), Albatros B II, and Hannover CL III (has a rectangular balance on one aileron and a tapered one on the other, short of mixing spares, did that happen in RL?). The Alb B II is especially neat.

I emailed the Czech who was originally hosting the “Unofficial Website” about a demo for WOW. He wrote back that the information he has is that a demo is ready to publish but he does not know when it will be and that it is up to Take Two…
He also briefly discussed the difference between the arcade flight model and the Classic mode and felt there was only one major unrealistic factor and that was that “planes are faster than real WWI planes.”
Perhaps if you could slow the whole sim down a tad, similar to the time compression in IL2… LOL better get the game and fly it first :0)

LOL..........have I tried FS-WWI? I've only been skinnin' for it goin' on four+ years now! In fact as soon as I get a new hi-res SPAD 7 skin done (btw it was modeled by tailgunner who's been talking here on this forum with us too), I can move on to finishing up the Fokker D.VII skin, and then ArgonV can wrap up Plane Pack 4 and finally get it out the door! P.S. Just finished my skin for the Richthofen Skies Nieuport 11 to be released sometime in the not too distant future too.

Polovski S! Re Trackir, WoW does not allow the use of Absolute mode. It will however allow the use of mouse mode. Just create a new profile called Wings of War,use in mouse mode. You will need on your joystick a button which gives Centre View in the Game. ( Not the centre view in the trackir, that is for absolute mode ) On the few occsions that the view becomes greater left than right, and vice versa, just press the centre view whilst looking at the centre of the screen, and all will come good again. Maybe one day the devs will give us an absolute mode, but there's nothing wrong with the present view, really. PS I'm posting on red baron forum re a trackmapper found here http://kaf.tri6.net/trackmapper/ To give TrackIR for red baron. Not quite got it working yet. I see you are a red baron man. Have a look.

Oops, sorry FlyXwire, have only just got into SDOE-WW1. Having given up after a failed dual install, working fine now. SDOE has many fine aspects (including the clever "comressed theatre" approach we may have to live with for WoW) but has always lacked a decent campaign. If a set of WW1 missions could be presented in the SDOE's existing campaign interface, rather than a set of missions attached to a plane, that might be better. Anyway having recently got it working, I'm getting back into it.
ArgonV, that new Somme terrain indeed looks much better, so THAT was what those Ilya Mourometz were flying over.

I don't think the PC version was gratis as it has MP support and from what I read looks 200% better than the Xbox version. You should be able to find the game locally by now, if not most EB games can "preorder" games that are out but not discontinued. Essentially "preorder" translates to "here is $5 towards the purchase of the game and hold the game and call me when you get a copy". The down side is I am unsure whether orders are checked against the preorder database when the game comes out. I'll experiment tonight and see what happens. After being disapointed(sp) by IL2:FB, WoW is looking mighty tasty. Yes, I know it is different genre but I like prop flight sims in general. Who knows if I get the game and the modding is sorted out a little more I might tidy up the Stakken I had made for SDOE (ugly beast - no skinning).

Polovski, I believe the 1916 Campaign to be included in FS-WWI's new Plane Pack is the fine work of Wing Chaps, and the terrain above is Gypsy's texturing (the D.H.2 skin is mine though). Of course ArgonV leads the FS-WWI team, along with his assembling, importing, modeling, and cheerleading duties (amongst other things)!

A significant point to make Ursus! I think it's of value to repeat GreyW's posting here again: I emailed the Czech who was originally hosting the “Unofficial Website” about a demo for WOW. He wrote back that the information he has is that a demo is ready to publish but he does not know when it will be and that it is up to Take Two…

Perhaps if you could slow the whole sim down a tad, similar to the time compression in IL2… LOL better get the game and fly it first :0) Now "slowing" down the game, although this sounds a bit peculiar, is in fact a good point (that is slowing down the flight models). Although high-fidelity FM's for WoW would involve more than just slowing down the aircraft (what's really needed is "speed bleed", and stalling characteristics brought on by high angle of attack maneuvering), at this point WoW displays an amazing attention to detail in so many sim-like departments! First, the terrain is magnificient, and although you can reach the perimeter limits fairly quickly, as others have mentioned already, the game "wind blows" your course back towards the open playing area (quite an acceptable game mechanic of keeping players "where it's at" in my mind)! Next the aircraft are very nicely modeled, with many "extra" details too (like moving aileron bellcranks with linking rods and/or cables for example). These details are not arcade stuff, but some of the finest features seen in any sim to date! The game's audio is very nice too. The aircraft graphics are good also, with multiple skins available for use, and the cockpits have moving controls and good texturing .........the end result is a highly-immersive in-cockpit experience from the start. Now although I haven't played many of the single-player missions yet, some of the experinced players so far (Cas141, Ivor H, Polovski) have detailed some of the more arcadish approaches of these missions (wingman and challengers speaking to you as if they're in your cockpit with you, etc.). Like the guys have said, if a mission editor were to become available, this would work magic for duplicating authentic-like operations! A final observation has to be made concerning the online component of WoW.........there's co-op multiplayer!!! To me this is just amazing from an "arcade game" point of view, because having "bots" (the AI) able to fill out and fly the "empty seats" online is becoming a great rarity in our simming experince nowadays! For this reason alone, it's easy to imagine realistic online missions being created (if a full mission editor becomes available that is), where two-seaters (or bombers, or float planes )are going about their business as the pursuit planes try to interdict or protect their work...........terrific potential here! By all rights, WoW has so many sim-like features already (at least the looks of a sim), and it's so easy to imagine how a bit more in-depth development could push this product right over the line from arcade game to sim masterpiece......really! In the raw the potential for something more far-reaching resides within this beast........I guess time will ultimately tell.

Very good points there FlyXwire. May I ask GreyW to email this dev chap and ask him to expedite the forum part of the website, as a matter of urgency? Then we could speak directly to the devs who would become aware, if not already, of the further business opportunities which the potential of this game could bring them. IMHO opinion this whole thing could take off into the "IL-2" of the WW 1 sim world. Also, a precautionary word re demos - other sims have issued demos which have not reflected the true sim nature of the full game , and have, I imagine, finished up being counter productive. For £20, (UK) it's worth a gamble of any simmer's money. Get the whole shooting match fellas, and be surprised!!

Apparently they are having some technical problems with the site and they will not hazard a guess when it will be up. Hopefully soon.
