Hey folks, I finally got around to reading this article by Michael Dugas over on the Simulation News website, and found it very appropriate to our lives and times:

A Modder\'s World

............it directly references the good work done by the Red Baron community, and the WWI flight sim community at large.

Very enjoyable, and relevant I'm thinking. \:\)

Mmmm - not bad, but he misses a lot of the nuances. For instance he draws a distinction between the owners of Falco 4 and the owners of Red Baron 3D because the owners of Falcon 4 won't let modders put out free updates whereas Kess can sell an update to RB. But that's a massive misconception - Kess is selling data updates, you can do that for Falcon 4. What you can't do is sell or give away a new executable for Falcon 4 - a code change, not a data change.

I'm likin' the general thrust of the article, and how it highlights the degree of inter-connectivity between the internet/mod groups/sim success and continued longevity, and the overall tone of the author's observations concerning our hobby and how we keep it going............

...........and how it may relate to KOE's future, or strategies that Aspect might pursue in getting OUR sim finished and onto the market. ;\)

Thats true to an extent, FCJ is data files, audio files, and alot of graphics files, in and of itself it is nothing, it isnt a program, and cannot be executed as such, it needs to be installed over the original game to function. but the biggest distinction is the fact that Sierra and Dynamix no longer exist, there is no flight sim dept. They laid out some basic rules to follow to protect their property, whereas falcon is still a viable product to some extent, with a company that is still in operation.
