Well, if are in the mood for some despair and panic mongering...

Anyone remember a few years back when a game designer with a big ego and bigger mouth got millions from investors with sweet promises of The Game to break the bank.

He and the gang lived in luxury and excess in their penthouse studio, spoiling themselves while delivering hints and "early" screenies of just how great 'The Game' would eventually be.

But all good thigs must come to an end.

Eventually, after millions of investor money had disappeared into thin air the 'guru' and his entourage seemingly came to realise that they very well might face fraud charges unless they actually did deliver a tangible game.

So they presented us (X), one the most famous turkeys in gaming history.

PS. Actual names withold for apparent reasons...

...or to be on the sure side I could add...

All charactes and events on this story are fictional and... \:D

Seriously, does anyone remember how this board came to be?

Because KOE board seems so pointless. What could we possibly do here when all we have is some screenshots that may or may not come from actual game-engine instead of Photoshop and vague, to say the least, info that there is this flight-sim that features some WWI planes and ground objects, a campaing of some kind and maybe multiplay of some sort, too?

It is obvious the Aspect is not the slightest bit interested in feedback - Oleg can be a stubborn mule at times, but if a Russian with a language barrier finds time to discuss his project with the admittedly harsh flight-sim audience, the deafening silence fron Aspect makes Microsoft look the paragon of consumer service.

Well the WWI mod for Targetware is coming along:

Richthofen\'s Skies

It's not going to be anything close to the scope of KOE's coverage, but..............

True, but it will be pay to play. And with no single player campaign, which it seems that many people want....

I've stayed away from pay to play thus far. I just can't believe in a concept where I have to buy a game, and then buy it again every month.

However, Targetware is initially free so its sort of different. Perhaps I'll give it a try online for a month, maybe. I just hate subscribing to things on a monthly basis, magazines, newspapers, CD clubs, online games, women. Guess I have a commitment problem lol :p

Black: It isn't ready for d/l yet.

I don't like PTP either. It does have its supporters, and they enjoy it. But it is not for me. I looked at WW2OL, but when I read of the massive patch needed just to get online, I said screw it. To say nothing of the fact it could take you an hour to get to the battle, only to die. Not something to waste my time and money on. Don't even see it in stores anymore.

Take the pessimistic view. KOE is not going to happen. Why take that view?

1: If I am right, I have that satisfaction.
2: If wrong, I will be pleasently surprised.

It is win/win!!!

Oh and Blacksheep 2, it isn't called a commitment problem, it is keeping your options open.

Ok I confess....the reason I first said that we should work on something else and forget about
KOE was just a bluff ploy in hopes they would read that and give a sign of life so we would stay on track with them  ..silly....I know but desperate times require desperate measures ;\)

I still like that mass e mail tactic someone mentioned in another post. Hey it doesn't even have to happen in one day. Everyone here who has not written to Aspect, just send an e mail asking what the status of KOE is because you are eager to play it. It doesn't have to be any more elaborate then that, but you can add more as I did. Perhaps if they get 30 - 40 - 50 e mails they will give one of us a reply or make an announcement as to whether this sim is still in production or cancelled.

April, 2003 - Knights over Europe

Aspect Simulations recently announced their WWI based combat flight simulator Knights Over
Europe to the gaming press, including showing a demo version at E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo). In order to meet the deadlines of having the demo ready by E3, Aspect Simulations realized the need to get quality terrain images into the game as quickly as possible.

Due to our experience in environmental and terrain visualization, we were asked to provide placeholder terrain textures that could be shown in the demo and screen shots until the actual terrain textures were in place within the game. The results went over quite well at the show and with the press, and we look forward to seeing the direction this promising title takes as development progresses.

but nothing at this year's E3... can't be good

Well I cant imagine anyone who could make a beeter WW1 flight sim then Oleg Mattox (IL2 fame)
but he says he isnt into WW1..(sigh)...and Wings with Wires seems to have run outta gas or something... \:\( ..If the Fighter Squadron wizards
could fix the WW1 birds fm's then that could be the
next premier WW1 sim. And all the planes are already made!! plus ww1 tanks and stuff..its just the FM's and maybe some other little things but its basically done. of theirs stil Red Baron

Daze, as soon as VDU impliments rotary gyro torque in the next Patch, the FMs will be much improved. \:D Also, many many other new improvements and revisions for Plane Pack 4!!

Also lets not forget Richthofen's Skies... I know there's no real single player campaign or series of missions to speak of, but the detail and FM and DM modeling should be fantastic!

I have faith in the Wings with Wires and Aspect teams, you guys should show some support. I realize that Aspect is a hell of a lot farther along in completion than Wings with Wires, but I'm keeping the faith. \:\)

Daze, the people I know over at SDOE will never give up on that game ever, whether its WWI or WWII. There are lulls, and breif plateu's but in order for work to ever stop on that sim I think either we'll all have get so old we can't see anymore, or the world wil have to end lol \:\)
