Short answer: no. We just think that pontificating is fun \:D

Seriously, latest estimate is Q4 of this year. Not sure where this came from but I do believe that it was Aspect saying it. One can be pretty sure that if they estimate Q4 then it will definitely ot be earlier.

CW3SF, the Q4 2004 release date came from JP4 in the SimHQ KOE interview itself:

Yea, I think it could go for $59.99 upon release. That would be my highest guess. I really think it will go for 49.99. Now, something to consider is that the new UT2004 went for [ I think ] $39.99. But that was built on the existing UT2003 engine. Aspect is building an engine and a sim, right? That means a lot of work and time. Gotta charge for it then.

60 bucks for a THIRD of what RB gave us?

.....That's insane!

But hey, don't be surprized if that's what they charge.

Wait a minute now... "A third of what RB gave us." Well suppose the time frame is only a third of what RB has. We don't know that to be the case, but let's suppose that is what we get. That still doesn't mean it will be only one third the gameplay that RB offers. This is a very important distinction. Just because the game doesn't cover the whole war and include every airplane we would like to see doesn't mean it will necessarily be short on the gameplay. For me that is what really matters. The multiplayer could be much better. The Campaign could offer more varied missions, or put you in the gunners seat rather than always in a scout as a pilot. The AI could be far superior to RB making the SP game far more challenging and tactical. Focusing wholly on time frame and included aircraft is missing much of what the sim can still be. It is a little early to be writing the game off wholesale. There is no logical reason for it. Try a little guarded optimism. At least until we get to play a beta, or get a ton more information.

I would think that the narrower the focus, the more detailed it can be.

The descriptions they gave for the damage models, and how they will model ballistics, etc, already put it far beyond RB.

S49.99 is probably close to the mark.

KOE used these boards to find out what we wanted.

Clearly, the message they got was a snapshot in time.

Now if KOE starts posting snapshots of Fokker E3's & Morane Bullets, then I guess I'll eat my words, but I don't think I will, since they could've posted them already.

When I fist saw the pic of the N24 bis, I too thought it was an N17, and got my hopes up.

......But reality came to me, and I realized that the French N17 had a deck mounted Vickers, and that it wouldn't be engaging Dr1's late in the war. Also, the N17 is silbergrau, not white.

So, the only logical conclusion is that it is an N24 bis, which is about right for mid to late 1917 when the Dr1 was at strength.

From our interview I got the impression that the sim encompassed the whole war.

Quote:
In Historic Mode, the campaign will depict the major events of WWI as they unfolded. Battles will occur when and where they did and the Germans are destined to loose, with the war ending on November 11, 1918. Despite strict adherence to the major historical events, the missions will still be dynamically generated and the localized success or failure of you and your squadron will still be dynamically represented. Remember, too, that the focus of campaign play is on you and your career, so your goal will be score kills, win medals, get promotions and transfers to hot squadrons, and gain international fame and glory. The outcome of the war is secondary. The most famous ace of WWI was Manfred Von Richthofen, and people don’t care that his side lost the war.

Did you read this one Uther?

http://www.checksix-fr.com/articles/detail.php?id=224

I have not come across anything from Aspect that says it will cover only one year. And I have alot of time to look \:D

Sounds really comprehensive to me.

This is conjecture but I'm reading into things like;

Particle collision ballistics

Advanced dm's

The entire West front for terrain. Definately not one small map.

Multiple squadrons

Advanced campaign system (this would be a very big seller for me)

Scalability

Room for third party add ons (I would be real cautious about this. I think Oleg Maddox has kept alot of the traditional CFS complaints of questionable fm's and dm's from happening. I can't think of anything worse than wondering if that guy just beat you because he used a modded plane)

Promise of increased plane sets.

No need for buying a new pc to run it.

All looks positive to me.

PS thanks for the link to C6's interview.

Not to mention this:

http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_069e.html

Isn't that a monoplane in the lower left hand corner? Or is it a biplane at a tricky angle? \:\)

If it is a monoplane, seems likely there are other earlier planes.

It's a biplane \:\)

Uther, from what I read so far, it looks like an Il2 type combat. The description of ballistics, and the screenshots seem to support it. At least to me. Just my opinion \:\)

I hope that Aspect keeps the FMs in house. Allow skinning. Allow people to model planes for the game, if they meet Aspect standarts. But leave the FMs in house. DMs too for that matter.

When JP4 was still here, early aircraft were brought up a few times at least.

......He never commented.

Have a little optimism.

I don't see how they could do the whole war without early aircraft.

They have pushed back the release so this could be good news for more ac.
