Hey, I'm curious how many WWI combat flight fans will buy KOE if it's released with less than 100 flyable planes?

Let your opinions be counted! \:\)

Salute WW1 Pilots! Sure we are going to purchase K.O.E! We need a new flight simm that is really made for DogFighting! Nothing funner then diving into a bunch of planes in a big dogfight. Plus i`am going to purchase Wings With Wires, if it ever gets finished. Can`t have to many WW1 flight simms! LOL. Take Care! Rooster

Of course everyone will buy it...you didnt have to start this thread just to prove BvH wrong.
His perception of what makes a sim isnt mine .
But he is entitled to his opinion.

I'll buy it.
I think though that how long it will stay on my hard drive is somewhat dependent on how many aircraft types will be available whetether AI or flyable.

A simple exercise in market polling, and a useful tool for determining what the customer wants, and where design priorities should be placed.

Of course I will buy it.

It will be most interesting to see if it can recapture the RB magic that kept me glued to the monitor way back then.

Yup I'll buy it for sure!!..
any company that tries to make a WW1 flight sim has my backing \:\)
BOP will be on my hard drive also when it comes out.
I'm am making myself official whiner for a first person flight sim. I wanna climb outta my bunk, walk to the breifing room where other pilots are planning the mission, climb in my plane....even crash land and run back to base. I know it can be done because battlefield 1942 does it...altho the planes in bf 1942 are horrible.

The poll results still keep adding up:

Yes, I will buy the sim if it ships with less than 100 flyable aircraft when released - 23

No, I will not - 0

Undecided - 1

A simple exercise in market polling, and a useful tool for determining what the customer wants, and where design priorities should be placed.

Fans want this sim! It seems aircraft quantity may be taking a back seat to other desired features and quality of build.

At this exact moment in the development, I would have to say unequivocably "Yes".

As the sim progresses towards its eventual release and things are added/changed/taken away...well, then it's a definite "possibly".

Just tryin' to keep it honest. \:\)

"Consider it done."

Ahhhh... nice to the guys from Aspect keeping an eye on the forums! I hope you also picked up that we would like the ability to mod the sim (I'm thinking adding planes, adding skins, adding squadrons)and the desire for a more 'engaging' campaign structure, ala RB3D... Hope you guys pop in more often. We have a ton of questions!

Damn Straight! Regardless of how many a/c there are in it.

Do you guys really need 100+ a/c? How about quality over quantity for the flyables? Let the AI a/c fill in the gaps...

FlyXwire, I'm a military airplane fanatic. It's the only word to describe it. I've been hoping a good WW1 sim would come out, to complement the Forgotten Battles, and LOMAC. I'm hoping KOE is every bit as good as it looks. Once I can fly the P-38 add-on in FB, the Eagle in LOMAC, and the SE-5 in KOE, I'll just retire and do nothing but fly simulators!
Just for the record, I'm a pilot myself, with lots of time in antique airplanes. My personal favorite is the Cessna 140, but I have a lot of hours in a 65 horse Cub, and used to own an old 1946 Ercoupe. I've yet to fly open cockpit, unless you count the times I slid open the side windows on my 'coupe, but I can't wait to do it sometime.

Yes I'll buy it with less than 100 planes,
provided that the other features are on par with Red Baron 3D, as has been discussed. Obviously the 3D engine will be vastly superior, but I mean the variable AI with variable smart tacics, replayability, great models, dynamic campaign, engrossing dynamic environment (example other missions in progress, ground attacks, weather), all that stuff that makes us play it 6 years later \:D

Only if it has the ability to use trackIR.
However, that should really be taken as read, but I'm damned if I can get a reply on this issue from the makers of this sim.
Who the hell wants over a hundred planes to fly?
If all other paramters are good - as Slice says- then, with modern graphics convincing you you are flying over "The vasty fields of France ", albeit carved up a bit by the artillery, you will have an excellent sim which should sell really well, even with a dozen planes.

Yes, I will definitely give this one a try. I've been waiting for a good WWI sim for a long time. WWII is done to death, but no one covers WWI much, or Vietnam era jets very well. It's all modern jets or WWII, and if anything different than that comes out, I'll definitely buy it! I'm downloading the "Wings of Honour" demo now.

A new Korea sim, to replace the classic "MiG Alley" would be nice, too, now that XP dominates. Someone is trying to update MA from the source code, but they don't seem to be moving very fast on it, and the current update version seems to lose some of the feel of the original, so I'm not all that happy about it.

But KOE is definitely on my purchase list.

Cheers!

Rick...

Yes Realistic flight is the most important thing in the most comman fighters, CFS2 looked good in it day but the fm,s were terrible, hopefully they will get it right. And as long as the reviews are good I will by it for sure.
Strike fighters is another nice looking game, with bad fm,s.

Another "BUY" here. I do hope it has some of the features that RB had. The campaign system for one. Also the multiplayer support that RB3D had.

While a large number of aircraft would be nice, I think it is more important that they be modeled well and that other features of the game are there. One hundred flyables with out a good campaign system and well done multiplayer means nothing.

BvH, there can always be more. But at some point even you must admit that a final release has to be made. My experience has shown me that as you continue to grow a project the likely hood of its ever being completed shrinks. I would think that when it comes to software this becomes even more the case.

The military calls it mission creep!

Hopefully there will be the ability to add on after the release.

I'm hoping it will be realistic and atmospheric as well as accurately modelling an interesting range of aeroplanes. I first became aquainted with sims when I was captivated by Flying Corps Gold a few years ago. It suprised me with its integrity. I am also hoping the AI will be realistic and that the landscape will be accurate also. It's a lot to hope for, but yes I will give it a go upon release. \:\)

As long as it more resembles a sim than an arcade game I will buy.

Looking forward to seeing reviews of this once it is out.

Probably. A lot will depend on how the product develops. If it looks to be a good, decent simulation with the correct aspects that I want (good campaign, decent aircraft list, good multiplayer, decent graphics then yes it will be on the top of my list.

We need a good new WW1 sim.

For me it will depend on the campaign system and the AI. These two aspects of the game are critical to my enjoyment. The rest, FM, eye candy, views, etc., I take for granted that it will be superior to what we have now (a 5 year old game). If these two aspects of the game are superior to RB then I will buy it in a heartbeat.

I agree with Tom. Especially his last sentence!
FWIW, if Flying corps gold had Maddox made terrain then it would be it.
It's mission builder was great.

For me, campaign and AI will be key issues.

I already have WBIII and DoA for my on-line flying fix. I'm mainly looking for stuff I can fly OFF-LINE...which means a decent campaign and AI IMHO.

RBII/3D is good but it's showing its age a bit (even with Kess's excellent FCJ add-on).

It'll be good to have another WWI air sim in the same vein as RBII/3D

I've talked to quite a few gamers that have very much ineterest in this sim that don't frequent these forums. I will be getting a copy and I know of at least 6 or 7 others not associated with flight sims in particular.

If it is up to the standards of IL2-FB, I'll be pre-ordering it. The screen shots look encouraging. Don't care about lots of flyable planes. Rather good FM, DM and eyecandy will sell it for me.

Sure I will buy it.Hopefully the graphics will be great. I think it will be a great sim to have fun with. Consider that the flat out rate of speed will not be miuch higher than WWII era stall speeds. Flying could be a real challenge.

I'll buy the game even if it has 3 or 4 aircraft. Besides I don't think there were 100 different types of aircraft flying in WWI, was there?

Anyway, what will be the measure of this sim will be if theres a decent campaign to fly the aircraft in. If not, then I won't buy it.

Droops did a review and came up with about 500 different types (many of which were quite obscure). In WFP I already have 100 different types flying and this is only western front army aviation from August 1915 til war's end. Even in that environment and time frame I could easily add 50 more types. Go from the start of the war and I could add another 50. Add float planes and that could account for a bunch more (there were alot of different float planes used and they did frequently engage in combat). Then there are the eastern and Italian/Austrian fronts that could add yet another slew of planes.

Now it goes without saying that you don't need all of these types to create a valid sim. IMHO flying in 1914 and early 1915 in unarmed two seaters isn't all that exciting. However, I personally find the early months of air combat (Summer 1915) to be very interesting. I would miss not being able to start a career earlier than mid 1917 (which based on the plane set in the pics is what KOE is looking like).

Anyway, we'll see what we get. I agree that a solid campaign format is far more important in the first release than plane set. Planes can be added, altering the underlying structure of the game is much harder.

Pacific Fighters is coming out about the same time as KOE. If KOE let's modders fiddle with the Flight Models then I probably will stick with PF where people have to fly the same FM.

I really really hope that the FM/DM stays in house.

Let 3rd parties make the planes, as long as they meet KOE standards. Let them do aircraft paints.
Let them make campaigns. But don't let them do FM/DMs.

You know, Pen and you made some good points previously concerning flight modeling and keeping them "in-house", and if Aspect actively supports the importation of quality user-made aircraft, then it sounds like a good idea to keep FMs in the control of the sim's designers exclusively.

This would probably create better comparison matching of the FMs between aircraft types, and as you guys have already mentioned before.......help to prevent porked (cheat) FMs too.........might be a good way to go!

I wonder what Aspect really has in mind?

I've had FB for about 8 months, probably flown 30 different planes and only about 6-10 regularly. 100 different flyable aircraft is way down on my list. My KOE wishes are:

- great offline campaigns
- accurate feeling flight models
- good AI
- good multiplayer
- nice graphics (don't need to be bleeding edge)
- lots of other things
...
- enormous plane set

I really hope KOE does the business \:\)

ABSOLUTELY!!!

I want it to include support for multiple input devises (ie separate stick, throttle, and rudder devises..) A RB style single player campaing, MMP capabilities, and individual paint scheme support..

I will buy it. I have been playing WWI flight sims since the original Red Baron wire frame arcade game in the early 80's.

I played that. I got such a high score all the numbers turned to letters.

I just wandered in and found this old thread. I'd recommend you take careful note of Pat Wilson's thoughtful responses.

I will wait to see whether KOE is substantially better than state of the art Red Baron 3d (and I mean better, not just prettier).

If it is better or if the on-line players all defect to KOE, I will probably buy KOE and make the inevitable upgrades to my AMD 750 512K Voodoo 3 PC needed to play KOE. Otherwise, I'll happily play on with the game as modified by the SWWISA folks.

That's the whole purpose of this thread, so that Aspect can take stock of what WE are mindful of........

Time to upgrade btw! ;\)

I sincerely hope that Aspect gives me a reason to want to upgrade. If KOE is good I'll dive into negotiations with my wife for the $ outlay to do it just to play KOE, otherwise my "old" Win98SE rig is perfectly adequate for my needs and very cost effective.

Salute LE Heureux!

I hope to bring a couple of my LANs Win98SE rigs into the fray too............it's that Voodoo card that makes enjoying the "state of art" of todays PC games a question mark to me, but I understand where you're coming from! \:\)

Sure, I unnerstand. The Voodoo is for Glide since Red baron is my game of choice. I had my rig built specifically for RB3d with the best cost point components then available based on Delphi Flight Sim Forum advice (studied for months while I dreamed about losing my 80486). I'll probably get a new MoBo and much faster cpu plus a good Nvidia that I can use dgvoodoo with...or else SLI the still factory wrapped matched V2's I picked up a couple years after I built the box.

yup, as long as it is aleast on a par with il2 series in regards to quality of flight models,
and developer commitment, i would not mind if it had only a few flyables, i will buy it!
this was the dawn of modern warfair, i do hope that you do it the justice it deserves!
thankyou in advance
