Most would say - yea I really hope so, and it should be since it is being developed by some of the same guys who developed RBII. Me, I’m not so sure. Here’s why;
* RBII - when it was released was - a mess!!! Anyone remember? How about this link to bring it all back;
http://www.intelligamer.com/sims/rb2/rb2.asp The last paragraph says it all;
“How Sierra could have released Red Baron II in the condition they did is a mystery. Perhaps the cynics are right and some companies really will do anything to ship product before the Christmas buying season. Although Sierra is now promising patches to fix the worst of the bugs and later to support 3D accelerators, I can't but recommend that you wait a good long time for the dust to settle. Otherwise you are going to regret that you spent your hard earned $60. In the mean time, download the original Red Baron for free from the Sierra web site, you'll have more fun with that, even if it is in stunning 16 color graphics.”
* Sure Sierra did support the product post release - but this was after howls of complaints from the simming community. And, really, they only fixed the glaring stuff (added 3D support, added views, supported MMP) and left the less obvious or more involved stuff for the community to handle (poor terrain, poor FM’s, poor DM’s, poor a/c models, etc., etc., etc.).
* The RBII modding community made RBII the classic that it is today - and w/ the release of the Western Front Patch, then the Hells Angels patch and now FCJ there is still a lot of life left in this old gal.
* Was SWWISA or Kess ever approached for their input/opinions - NO!! Why the hell not is what I want to know? These guys are uber talented and have done things - w/o the source code mind you - that no one would have thought possible.
* What do we really know about KOE at this point? Pretty a/c models, interesting DM graphics and so-so terrain - that’s it!!!
* “But these are the RBII guys!”, I hear you say. Yea, Tucker Hatlfield was an RBII guy too and went on to produce those 2 “very fine” products, CFS2 and CFS3 for M$. :rolleyes:
Don’t get me wrong - I would KILL for an up to date WWI flight sim w/ the attention to detail of an IL-2FB and a dynamic campaign w/ all that RBII “chrome”. I just want to caution all of you that it is way too early to start popping champagne corks over KOE.
Regards,
Barkhorn.
