I ordered the following from newegg, but after putting it all together, I can't get the POST screen to come up:

AMD Athlon X2 4200+ Windsor Socket AM2

Corsair XMS 2x 512mb DDR2 800mhz

ECS NFORCE4M-A motherboard

eVGA 7600GT

Apevia Case

Rosewill 500W PS

Western Digital 160gb SATA II

NEC DVD+RW

I put it all together with some Artic Silver on the cpu and an extra 120mm blue LED fan, hooked up all the connectors for the case buttons, and fired her up. The system powers on, the hard drive spins, all the fans spin and glow, the video card fan is going, but there is no beeps and no signal to the monitor. I have tried moving the memory around and just using one or the other in every slot, checked my cpu installation and graphics card, and I tried with the hdd and dvd disconnected, but I get the same problem.

I haven't built a system in a while, so I am kind of at a loss of what to do. I don't have any other new PCI-E systems to swap any of the core parts with, so I am hoping I just have something plugged in wrong and not an RMA to deal with...

Any thoughts?

That Rosewill PSU. Don't scrimp on a PSU for a gaming machine. $47.99 price is way too cheap for a really good PSU IMHO. I could be wrong though. Send that thing back and get a Sparkle, Fortron or Antec.

try booting up bare minimum with as much onboard stuff (ie onboard video), its possible its still setting Priooty to onboard devices which you'd need to go into the mainboard bios and change that to AGP/PCi

also, that Mobo is not very good with Hi-Voltage Ram...

Well, I am trying to build a budget gaming system. If I could have spent $75 on a nice Antec or Thermaltake PSU, I would have. This one wasn't too cheap and had good reviews on newegg.

I messed around a little more and found out what was wrong. The PSU has a 20 pin + 4 pin power connector for different motherboard compatibility, and it also has an aux 4 pin connector. Once all 3 were plugged in, the system booted right up. I have XP home up and am setting up stuff right now.

I am still having an issue with the dual RAM sticks being stuck in single channel mode, though, and the BIOS auto-detected the CAS speed wrong. It was set to 3 when the memory is rated at 5.

well, the motherboard manual doesn't mention the 3rd 4-pin AUX connector at all. I'ts labelled in the diagram in the front, but the chapter on connecting the power supply only discusses the 24 pin connector and how it will accept either 20 or 24 pin power supply.

My ps has a split 20+4 pin connector for compatibility, but what is the power difference between 20 and 24 pins?

An ATX 24-pin connector provides and additional 2 12V cables and an additional 2 ground cables. The extra 12V loop is provided to power the latest generation motherboards and CPUs which need more juice.
