I want to hook my laptop up to the Internet using the cable I have hooked into this computer. When I unplug from here and plug into the laptop, the PC light on my modem goes out, presumably indicating that the modem does not see the PC. It will blink if I unplug the modem and plug it in again, but I am still unable to get it connected.

Thoughts/comments/concerns?

I'm sure you've learned from out recent attempts to get your new system to see the internet that cqable modems do not like constantly reassigning IP addresses as various computers are plugged into them. Get yourself a router or even a simple switch and save yourself these hassles.

I've got one of these ; it works great.

I think the modem locks to a MAC adress, and has to be unplugged for a while to clear. Try unpower for 5 up to 30 minutes.

I would, but I'm going to be leaving in a week, and the wireless works everywhere except the dorms...
