That article is from Nov '05 FYI. It doesn't include the current top-line chips (FX-60 and 955EE)

You obviously didn't check the date on that "study". Some people might consider it to be a little bit "out-of-date".

I don't really care who wins, because in the end, it's my wallet doing the smiling.

Does it really matter that it's out of date? What they're comparing is very much apro to what most are using now. We've just switched over to AMD, due to what we've read on these boards, after 12+ years of Intel & so far, we're impressed & it's definately not all because of financial savings. It was just that AMD vs Intel stuff that swayed us & we were so satisfied, we built a second system. By the way, both top line chips are mentioned in the above out dated comparison. ;\)

I went the AMD route for compatability, great power for your dollar & most every benchmark I've come accross AMD seems to rule the roost.

I have an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ with the ASRock SATA2 Mobo with AGP & PCI Express, 2 gigs of G.Skill DDR400 memory, 160 gig Western Digital SATA2 3.0gig Hard Drive & a XFX 7600 GT XXX 256MB. This machine rocks any game out there and it only cost me around $600 for these upgrades. If I would have upgraded to an Intel P4 setup with DDR400 memory if may have cost me another $150.

My last rig was an Intel 2.4 Northwood 533FSB with a Giga-Byte GA-8IHXP Mobo with 512MB of PC1066 32ns memory and a ATI Radeon 9800 PRo. it was good rig, but not fast enough for upcoming games and programs of the future.

AMD 64's are great gaming rigs!!!

They should be even better soon when AMD goes to DDR2

Then again, the actual performance gain of AM2 seems to be in question

I'm looking forward to Intel's Conroe launch. It looks promising.

Have assembled three systems for friends and relatives during the past 8 months, all AMD based.

FWIW,...
Does this mean that neither AMD or Intel have come out with anything new since Nov. '05? I hope that's not the case. That would be sad.

Nothing to do with the latest or greatest. The chips we used are still main stream & are being used in new puters every day. The outdated comparison has to do with that, not with what's on the horizon or just starting down the pike for average users.
