DRM=digital rights management. Meaning that if you want to view very high definition content on Vista then you will need a HDCP (high definition copy protection) capable monitor and video card. I've got the HDCP monitor but not the video card. Read the below. http://www.cdfreaks.com/news2.php?ID=13024

Chief,
Wait until after Vista is released, and wait until users have gotten a chance to see how things work on it. Lots of things.
Even if Vista is the greatest thing in the world, you will not want it on day one. It will have idiosyncracies, quirks, problems, bugs, etc. that very few will be familiar with. People here can tell you a 15-step procedure in Windows XP with their eyes closed, but they won't know how to help with Vista.

I wonder if Microsoft is going to release Vista upgrade version which is I could upgrade from Windows XP Professional to Windows Vista. That would be cool.

Okayyyyyy....I did ask, didn't I ? Her XP machine is really slow....1.67 Gc processor. 768 MB RAM....[I don't want it] Birthday coming up, good time...IF* Vista was available from H/P...[not yet]. Hate to 'invest' the bux for a hot XP system, that will be ancient ...soon after. We'll wait a while, I guess...Get her a new pair of fuzzy slippers instead !

I think Appassionata von Climax will too.... It just seemed like a 'nice' idea. One of her lady friends has a 'blitz' fast machine, and I am told it is SO good for the photos and cards, etc. Thanks for the 'slaps on the cheek'... I needed that...

HDCP was either "do it or lose it" from the content industries. I read just yesterday that if you don't have HDCP hardware you will be able to view it but at a lower resolution, higher res than current DVD but not by much. Plus they might add noise to the image to further degrade the quality and message overlays about needing HDCP hardware. http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1935703,00.asp Any operating system that does not support HDCP in this way will always reduce the resolution of those HD-DVD or Blu-ray discs that choose to require it. In other words, expect similar DRM features to be added to operating systems such as OS X or for them to have crippled support for HD-DVD and Blu-ray, or no support at all.
