Sitting here in Iraq, waiting to go home in a few months, and I am putting together my "Homecoming Rig". Has anyone tried a 7800 yet? Is it worth the price? Post your thoughts.

Got one. Rocks. Had a 6800GT. Lays it to waste. Kinda like what would happen if you guys went head-to-head with an Iraqui insurgent unit in a fire fight. And the 6800gt can't sneak a car bomb on you.

Athlon X2 4800+, Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, 2Gb OCZ PC4000 EB Plat, 74G 10k WD Raptor, 2 X Leadtek 7900GTX, Audigy 2 Zs, SeaSonic 600W PSU, Windows XP Home, CH Products Fighterstick, Pro Throttle, Pro Pedals USB.

I got mine too. Replaced a 6800GT and mobo to get this worthy upgrade. As vmann said "Had a 6800GT. Lays it to waste." How true.

I would say yes it is. Consider an equivalent GPU which would most closely be 2 x 6800GT's in SLI mode. Price approx $600 or more. Single 7800GTX is $500 or more.

It's overkill because I benchmarked my system with a single card before I went SLI and I was able to play all my current games at max resolution possible with all the eye candy and had awesome framerates. The extra card is there to somewhat futureproof my graphics system for a bit longer - hopefully at least for a few more years.

Canada, eh!
I also bought one when I built my new system (p4-3.8, 2GB RAM and 7800GTX) to replace my "old" P4-2.8 (3.0OC), 1GB RAM and 6800GT OC.

Its a freakin' monster. Fantastic card. When prices come down, I'll buy another and SLI it.
