I'm still amazed at these prices. 248 one place (218 with coupon) 230 another, I just hope these aren't factory seconds or refurbished or something along those lines. I know it says its the retail package so everything is just a little weird. Canada computers also had some other Logitech products that were equally cheap, a laser mouse 2 years ago for 40 bucks. This price is probably here to stay though so happy shopping either at staples or at these guys. Greets

I'm not interested at all in more buttons on the wheel, and a thumbpad would be an outrage. It would look like a PS2 controller, which is exactly what Logitech did not want.

The way the G25 looks is perfect.

I don't have indeed the cash to invest in a G25, but I'm thinking about the MOMO to get back in the wheel-saddle (my Wingman Formula is OLD and my Xpad is getting jerky)... I thought about Thrustmaster's RGT-Clutch, but it seems Logitech just manages to stay on top of the game! BTW, and IIRC the RGT was supposed to sell with GTR2 included (at least I got a leaflet in my GTR2 box promoting the package), which I think it's an answer to your Q:

I am surprised that SimBin and Logitech didn’t strike a deal to bundle GTR2 software with the G25...
Overall, the G25 is a much better wheel with one exception: The Thrustmaster RGT Pro Clutch Pedal Edition has superior force feedback in rFactor. It's more realistic and more engaging. Not much difference in other racing sims, but with rFactor, the G25 takes second place. I own both wheels so I'm covered for anything.

Chunx:
Your review was frank, comprehensive (to say the least!), accurate, and spot on. I now own it as a result and couldn't be happier unless they had added more buttons to the wheel - just as you stated. But this setup is robust to say the least; with 100% force feedback you can barely turn the friggin wheel in NR2003! Thanks for turning me on to this setup!

Here's a link to more info on it. This is the one that I have. I might not yet be in retail stores. I heard it will cost about $149.

I kept switching back and forth between the TMaster RGT Clutch Pedal Edition and the G25. The Tmaster RGT beats the much more expensive G25 when it comes to rFactor. The force feedback implementation in the TMaster is unbelieveable in rFactor. Buy the cheaper wheel has drawbacks. The accelerator and brake are too cluse together. The pedal base moves on carpet. It doesn't secure to my desk with the vise-like grip that get from the G25.

This is a little out there, but it can work:

I had an old Nostromo n52(I believe) Speedpad FPS controller thingie that I was given by a friend of mine. Google it and you'll see what I'm talking about.

At any rate, I stuck this thing to the center of my MOMO Black with some silly-putty-like stuff called AllStick that I got from Office Depot. It actually worked pretty well and didn't get in the way. So the upshot was I had ten or so extra buttons in the center of my wheel. Positioned just so, I didn't even have to take a hand off the wheel to push the little buggers.

Admittedly, it's a pretty low-rent solution but it did do the trick. I'm sure a similar but more thought-out solution wouldn't be too hard to find for the scarcity of buttons on the G25. Possibly by sacrificing a cheap game-pad a very good result could in-fact be pretty easy to attain.

Really, I think that AllStick stuff was the key. It held so tightly that I had to pry it with both hands to get it off. It's not messy at all, comes off easy and is re-usable to boot- a good way to attach one thing to another without having to drill, glue or otherwise irreversibly alter either component. It's real cheap too.

Anyways, just throwing out ideas! ;\) I have, of course, since taken the thing off. I didn't actually need more buttons- I just wanted to put that Nostromo thing to use... it is certainly worthless for FPS games.

Love,
AeroMechanical

edit: Oh, it's also good for sticking mis-behaving pedal assemblies to a hardwood floor. I've got pretty nice floors and it didn't pull off the finish or anything (but don't take my word on that). Um... I'm starting to sound an awful lot like a salesmen so I'll stop now.

Will you be my friend?
Love, AeroMechanical
