“For many of you who do not know how I got my start in this, our shared business, I will tell you the story. Once I was what you would call a “rookie,” da? And like any new pilot, I had my very first combat mission.”

A great one Cat. Is the terrain and skins part of Project Strike Fighters?

Stratos-

The ParanDesert skin I used actually came with the MiG-21-F13 model I downloaded from CombatAce. I added it to the MiG-21PFM because that has always been my favorite aircraft of the MiG-21 series. I'd love to see someone with modeling talent take the PFM and add a better-looking 23mm gunpod, and make the centerline station a "weapons station" rather than an internal gun-I think the pod was detachable in some configurations.

Cougar-
Yes, the sim I used is Strike Fighters: Project 1, service pack 4.

JDAM, Groove-
Thanks! Glad you all enjoyed the read. There are other parts of Sacha's past we may explore one day. Guod has been hinting that we should do the time she went to Red Flag for quite awhile. She was involved as an instructor in the Ethiopia-Eritrea civil war in 1999-2000, also. There's a good bit there to work with, and when the current Abkhaz story arc is done we're exploring the possibilities depending on the feedback I get from readers like you all.

That's a good article. I'm glad you wrote the story since SF seems to lack much of one.

I loved the MiG-21 growing up. I'm pleased to see that you all enjoyed seeing Sacha again. That tells me I need to wake up and do a couple more.

I'm thinking about a different angle after this cycle is up, possibly something involving an Argentine A-4 squadron or some Israeli Mirages on a peacekeeping jaunt, using SFP1. We'll see. Depends on what I hear from you, the readers.

I love the idea. One of the reasons that I so much enjoy LOCKON/Strike Fighters/IL-2 is the fact that one can fly other aircraft not normally associated with one's own country. You get to see and experience what the "other side" deals with...at least from the sims perspective. \:\)

Funny thing though is for the past six months now I've been exclusively flying western aircraft in all my sims. \:D

Great story Cat, and nice to see one using SF.

Did we ever hear about Sacha's first kill?

If she was flying a MiG 21 there must be good story there - no BVR video games, just good old fashioned dogfighting skills. And how would she feel afterwards? I would guess it's a bit different from rocketing a ground target or seeing an air target radar blip disappear from the screen.

I'm not sure where her first air kill came from. Might have been in Abkhazia, early in this current series. Hmm. I need to look back a bit.
