Suddenly the screen just went black and I had to power off manually since no input was recognized. After this it won't boot, it powers up and the LED for power and HD are on, the fans work, and the HD makes a noice or two when I turn the power on, but bios doesn't load and the screen is dead. No beeb as usual when boot. Is this a fried mobo or could it be anything else?

System is Epox 8RDA+ mobo, Athlon 2100+@2700, 1 GB PC3200 RAM, ATI 9700 pro, Matrox 120 MB ide HD.

Check for leaking capacitors on the mobo.
I had the same mobo, had similar problem, replaced 2 leakining and 3 bulging capacitors and after that it was fine.

Could be the motherboard or the power supply. Unplug everything not necessary to boot and see what happens.

Thanks for the replies! I do have leaking capacitors on the board, a few next to the memory slots! I guess it it probably the mobo then.

Is there a possibility that the cpu or the memory could be be the problem? Is it likely that the power supply is the problem? It powers up all right and fans are working fine.

Not likely. Unfortunately, leaking capacitors have been an issue from time to time. If you have them, time to either replace them or the motherboard itself.

If you can see caps leaking, your problems are almost certainly due to that. New motherboard time, I'm afraid, unless you have a lot of patience and are good at soldering and are very lucky (gotta have all 3 \:\) ).

If you have a friend who does electronics repair or design (professionally), he'll probably be able to easily replace them \:\)

Otherwise, I'm afraid you'll have to get a new mobo.
