I might be to late, but get the Abit NF7-S v2.0 for the AXP. Great board.
I would tend to agree, this Abit board has been a huge improvement over my Asus. I went to an Asus board for its vaunted stability. I was disappointed in the end. Mine couldn't hold its BIOS settings without power connected. It couldn't FSB overclock at all... It gave the occasional CPU hiccup that required some voltage fiddling, although it could CPU overclock well, go figure. It also ran very hot--and fried one processor within RMA period as a result. I did a couple of early OS installs to get it set up smoothly, and a couple of years later it still sputtered. Meanwhile, my year older Epox is still humming along--it had some notable problems early on, but it has been rather resilient.
When I bought the Asus a few years back they were prized for stability, while Abit was a monster fast overclocker but plagued by major customer support issues and frequent sudden motherboard death. About that time the wheels seemed to come off of Asus boards. They were doing very poorly at overclock, particularly FSB (as I can attest.)
