Part of the design of the original SPAW was to allow missions from carriers. In single missions you could take off from an Allied carrier to attack a Japanese carrier, and after taking off you could accelerate time and approach the target. Because there is no time acceleration this was impossible in multiplayer, hence a multiplayer-friendly theatre was made. I was using this example to illustrate why some multiplayer-friendly theatres had been created. I never said that it was solely designed for single missions, but I did not mention careers because they were irrelevant to the point that I was making.
