I would say PE only; but TBH I don't know. The real question is: Is 'WOFF PE Realistically Populated Airfields 1.0 by JJJ65' mod compatible with UE as well? I'm pretty sure that my mod might very well be compatible with UE, but as I used airbases from another mod, it creates dependencies.

As you know strategies changed throughout the war, For example:

(1) Solo flights were more prevalent on both sides earlier in war, and you'll need JJJ's ME to modify the generated mission (xml) files.
(2) Fuel shortages for German side also needs the ME to edit the mission file.
(3) Both Active and Quiet sections of the front are represented in the MOD with different mission types for each.
etc...

A more descriptive list of OH's MOD changes can be found here and here.

Yes I've seen it. Have to check it more in details. However, IMHO it needs to be adjusted (for example, I see 'sramble' or 'airfield attack' for scouts, which were very unlikely to happen - especially concerning German fighters; if it did happen, I would be glad to read something about that)

From my own knowledge, mission types were not varied at all.

As a French, and with a 30 years interest in WW1, I'm more an expert of French scout units, obviously. You can summarized their missions as 'Ronde front d'armée' as Guynemer used to say (Round on the army front), or 'Patrouille [town A] - [town B]' (Patrol from 2 towns occupied by Germans on the frontline) if you read for example Spa 26 logs. They did some photo recon, some occasional trench straffing, and few escorts and that's it. Regarding straffing, protection of artillery spotting machines, and even more balloon busting, these were most likely secondary duties of a patrol but not assigned objectives.

As a very lucky owner of the personal diary of 'Mick' Mannock, it seems pretty clear to me that mission types were not very different BEF-wise. The main difference was the distance with the frontline. BEF were indeed applying a very aggressive strategy of flying deep inside occupied territory (referred to as 'O.P.' by Mannock).

And regarding German scouts, they were usually flying over occupied territory next to the frontlines. They were very unlikely to follow allies crossing the lines. Henrich Kroll is a good example: 2 events are fairly relevant,

(1) 25 May 17: victory over a Spad at Fort de la Pompelle (Reims region), which was on the frontline. We now know that no Spad felt there. In fact, Kroll most likely lost sight of a French Spad he fought with that crossed the line flying W. IMHO, the french airman was Albert Deullin who flew back home safely (and not René Dorme as many thought, whose wreckage was located 15km E, well inside occupied territory and fit much more with both von Breiten-Landenberg & von Schleich's victory -most likely shared-). Kroll may have hit the french scout BTW.
(2) 4 Dec 17: victory over an SE5 E of Cantaing-sur-Escaut (Cambrai region), which was on the frontline. Kroll's opponent this day was, with not much doubt, James McCudden who flew back home safely. As per McCudden's report, Kroll broke away at 7,000ft without having caused serious harm.

I'm in no way trying to discuss Kroll's honesty, but I'd like to illustrate the fact that German scouts weren't used to continue fighting over allied territory. Well, of course it happened, for balloon busting for instance, and as a matter of fact, MvR eventually crossed the lines, not that much, 1.5km only, from Sailly-le-Sec to Vaux-sur-Somme, and... died; if you look at this very example, that wasn't a bad strategy to stay in your lines. smile And, to get the full figure you have to take into account the terrible reliability of aircrafts, their engine, machine guns, etc., and well, that is to say, staying your side was way safer!

But JJJ's WOFF PE Realistically Populated Airfields-mod is depending on Mission Editor. Without ME the mod doesn't function. Does it mean for your Global Layer also, that it functions only with ME or is it even in this case?

Greetings and Thanks!!

Hallo! Well, I'm using ME only to check debriefing files, therefore, you could probably use my mod without ME. But I may be wrong. JJJ is certainly more educated than me regarding the exact impact of installing ME. smile
