SKIN OF THE MONTH, JANUARY, 2020

Beginning in this new year, I thought it might be interesting to everyone to spotlight some of the excellent skins from the basic game and the WOFF Official Aircraft Skin Pack.

There are so many that you may never even see some of them unless you fly with that particular unit or encounter it in a scrap. Then, only seeing it fleetingly unless you stop to take a screenshot.

I also thought it would not be amiss to acknowledge those who put so much of their life blood into making these carefully researched, expertly painted and textured works of art.

I PM’d Schredward about who the creators were, and he replied with this:

Makai and Stachel collaborated on the DR1 and DVII skins; Stachel did the DIII, the RE8, BE2 and the F2b. Makai did the Alb DII, Halberstadt, Roland, DFW, Bristol Scout, Pfalz. The Finn did the Alb DV and SPAD DVII and Sandbagger did the SPAD XIII, the Noops, Camel, SE5 and added skins to some of the other types. And some of the skins were left over or reworked from Rabu.

To start, I would like to put the RNAS-9 Camel of Harold Francis Stackard on display. I got the idea for doing a SKIN OF THE MONTH feature when I had a fatal encounter with this Camel while flying a Pfalz with Jasta 30 and was impressed with the beauty of this little beast that was pumping virtual lead into my virtual backside.
As to the man this skin represents: Fl. Sub-Lt. Stackard transferred into the RNAS in Oct. 1916. After completing his training he spent eight months on the Western Front with the RNAS-9, Roy Brown’s outfit. I can’t find anything about his decorations, but being wounded and credited with 15 aerial victories there must have been some.

It being a Camel, I will presume it's to be Sandbagger who should take a bow for this one. [Linked Image] [Linked Image] [Linked Image] [Linked Image] [Linked Image]
