65 Squadron, Tangmere, 7 September 1940Apparently, September 6th was quite a busy day in the Battle of Britain but in this campaign, weather severely curtailed flying. So our next show is on the 7th, and as per real life, the Huns seem to be going for London. The ten Spitfires we can muster are scrambled to deal with a raid heading for the capital from the south-east.
We're soon away...
...and climbing to the north-east.
Some of the boys mill around a bit but they soon catch up...
...and shake out into formation.
I get a fresh Vector from the Controller, which confirms we're still in business. Keen not to miss the party, I begin to edge ahead of the pack again.
There's quite a lot of cloud about, some of it rather dark and menacing.
Still, visibility of the ground isn't too bad, so hopefully the Observer Corps people will not lose track of the Huns.
Climbing at full power, I'm soon passing through ten thousand feet...
...and ease off a bit to allow the others to get back into formation. We've still about thirty miles to go out of just over fifty, so there's plenty of time. Hopefully.
...to be continued!
