Repelled attack of German Infantry this morning, Position on a hill amid the tree line 1 Team : one 30 cal Mg in a clear area with 1/2 Hq ( 3) men backed by a 60mm Mortar. (5 men) + 1 Rifle squad ( 12 men) Scattered among tree line going East 4 Rifle squad's ( 46 men) In the rear the reserve of 3 Squads ( 36 men ) + 1/2 Hq ( 3) men. Further in the rear 2 tubes 81mm Mortars . Enemy attacked in Company strength + at least 3 Mg's and a Mortar Enemy movement on the left flank 2 Squads then we were hit by Mortar fire.. 6 rds. and Hq squad moved on the right flank followed by 4-7 Squads of Inf. Called in Arty ( the 2 tubes of 81 MM ) all missed or fell on us taking out 12 men + our 60mm. 5 more enemy Inf Squads attacked left flank Moved the Res 3 squads to reinforce the left flank. The Mele just petered out after the contact. Battle losses: 26 Inf + crews to Mg and 60 mm mortar , and both 1/2 Hq's (6 men) wnd 7 Enemy: 1 HQ unit, 1 Mg 42, 7 Infantry Squads Wnd ?
