AMD Powers Europe’s Most Powerful Supercomputer Ever With 748,544 Zen 2 Cores

The UK government announced today that it has awarded the contract for the country's next generation national supercomputer to Cray, a supercomputing specialist subsidiary of HP.

When ARCHER2 goes into operation next year it is expected to be the 5th most powerful supercomputer in the world and the most powerful CPU-only supercomputer in the world.

Waayyy back in the day, our NASA facility had one of the first Cray supercomputers -- 64 (very very slow by today's standards) cores -- programmed in FORTRAN -- Wow!

Now, the cellphone in your pocket is faster than our Cray was -- and this new Cray has 748544 very fast cores smile

Oh, by the way, our Cray filled a room -- a bit larger than a cellphone biggrin
