I also like Metallica for sure and have some of their albums also. But I wouldn't call it real thrash metall. There are some other bands out there you really only hear repeating the same monotonous riffs over and over again. I really like hard music, but there also has to be some sort of solo guitar parts in it. I love guitar, but never had the time to really learn it playing. My son is playing every minute of it's free time.
His great idol is Stevie Ray Vaughan --> this is a long way to go for him , but I'm so proud that he did was his dad never was able to do.
