No offense meant, but that was a rather complicated way to say that a point on the equator moves at ~1000 miles/hour. Equator is ~40000km around, => 40000km/24h => ~1666km/h, or ~1000 miles/hour.
Now make that same calculation with the earth orbiting the sun, and you will get to ~67000 miles/hour or >100000km/h - wooooosh exitstageleft runningdog


It was a way of "putting it into scale".

Imagine the hour hand of your watch, or clock, at HALF speed, with the tip moving 1000mph.

That's the size of the Earth...

I confess I did kind of present it almost like how I would to kids...
