When I get killed in career, I start my next pilot in the same squadron, start date 1 week after my last pilot died... then I can believe I am the replacement pilot freshly arrived.
Sometimes I start at the lowest rank again, sometimes at the same rank as the last pilot that died.
That way I can stay with my favourite Squadron all the way through a campaign
