Samsung Commences Mass Production of Its 7nm LPP EUV Process, Promises 50% Lower Power Consumption
This approach will help the manufacturer to obtain a 40 percent area reduction at the same complexity, a 50 percent lower power consumption at the same frequency and complexity, and a 20 performance boost using the same power and complexity. All of these differences are when you compare it with the previous-generation 10nm LPE technology
Interesting comparison of a 7nm process advantage over a 10nm process. Samsung production is aimed at Smartphones -- not CPUs or GPUs. Also, its 7nm is not the same as TSMC 7nm used by AMD. However, the article about chips in production gives a glimpse of what 7nm may ultimately bring to CPUs and GPUs -- at some point when TSMC is using LPP EUV or equal. We'll see next year what the first generation TSMC brings to consumer CPUs and GPUs.
