It was conceived .. in 2001 - to create a database of cryptocurrencies and organise them in a logical and searchable manner. ... a one-stop resource referencing the software behind these digital currencies.

The emphasis on the word "software" above is no coincidence. There is a large number of excellent websites that focus on the monetary, financial and investment aspects of cryptocoins, but there are aren't many that provide information about the many interesting technical features of these exciting new technologies
