A guy called iLee was doing it, but perhaps real life overtook him? You haven't missed anything, main page updates aside. It's just that at the moment it doesn't appear anyone has stepped up to keep it current. I'm sure they'd consider your application if you're so inclined.
Personally I hadn't even noticed as I go straight to the forums. Any 'news' that would make the main page would show up in a thread anyway, and usually well before.
