Intel targets Nvidia [and AMD] with Nervana

..after losing the mobile market to Qualcomm it looks as if the the AI market might be lost to the graphics tsars – Nvida and AMD.

Now Intel has announced it has a its first AI chip, the Nervana Neural Network Processor..

Nervana is designed from the ground up for machine learning and you can't play games on it. Rao thinks that ditching the GPU heritage made room for optimisations like super-fast data interconnections...

Self driving cars and other "robot" devices are the future. Their "brains" need special circuits. Now the competition will be among Nvidia, AMD, Intel -- all three are developing such devices.

Competition is good smile But, while competition is good, it remains to be seen if "AI for everything" (including your job and mine) is truly going to make things better for folks.
