Considering the Core architecture has been evolved only slowly since the C2D came out back when, I'm astounded Intel has gotten this much mileage out of it. I think they have a successor CPU on the drawing boards but were waiting for it to make financial sense to invest in making them. Ryzen may be that impetus.
Give it a year or so and we'll see the next Intel CPU be a departure from the past Bridge/Lake CPUs to be something new.
