I have no way of telling how close is this to the TV series because I have never seen a single episode of the TV series.
Is it just me feeling this way about Henry Cavill becoming the next Bond in a few years when he is a bit older?
I thought the same, I've never seen any of the originals either but I thought his (Cavill) mannerisms and the way he carried himself was pretty good, the big "Russian" I thought was very good as well.
