The battle at Hardhome was seriously awesome, and the deus ex dragona was neat, but other than that there was no Battle of Blackwater or the Wall to punctuate it.

I agree. Blackwater and especially The Wall were amazing feats for a TV show. Blackwater is when I really grew to like Tyrion Lannister. Dinklage and the writing make him out to be such a real character with as much internal strength as any normal sized person (even more than most). There's a hardened dignity that Dinklage portrays in Tyrion that one can't help but root for and admire.
